Clarksville native Jake Rudolph to be inducted into Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

 

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Jake Rudolph — longtime high school football coach at Memphis University School — will join will 10 other inductees on June 6th in Nashville, TN at the Omni Hotel as a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2015 inductees.

Joining Rudolph, who was born in Clarksville in 1929 and died on July 6th, 2008 after suffering a stroke recorded 295 wins in 39 yards as head coach of the MUS Owls — including a Class AA state championship in 1985 and runner-up finishes in 1983 and 1990. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay Governors Football hosts Jacksonville State Gamecocks Saturday at Governor’s Stadium

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay football team will look to earn that elusive first win of the season under first year head coach Kirby Cannon on Saturday, as Jacksonville State comes to Governor’s Stadium for a 4:00pm kick-off.

This the third of four homes this season for the Governors, who will play eight road contests this season.

Instant “Peay” Play: APSU Transfer Tim Phillips looking to make the most of senior season with Govs Football

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Fifth-year senior running back Tim Phillips is looking to make the most of what he calls a second chance this season with the Austin Peay State University football team and prove that he has what it takes to possibly play at the next level.

Phillips, who played for one of the best high school programs in the nation at Trinity High School in Louisville, KY, transferred this past summer after spending the last four years at Central Michigan University – the same university as first-year head football coach Kirby Cannon.

APSU Fans to vote on All-Time Governors Stadium Football Team

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will be “retiring” Governors Stadium, or at least as it is currently configured, at 2013 season’s conclusion when the wrecking balls begin collapsing the home side of the 67-year-old facility to make way for a new construction, including suites, for the 2014 season.

To celebrate such retirement, Austin Peay’s athletics department will honor the venerable facility by naming an All-Time Governors Stadium team.

APSU Governors Football add Two Central Michigan transfers among six late additions

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head coach Kirby Cannon has gone north to add a couple of familiar faces to the Governors’ 2013 roster.

Running back Tim Phillips, who enjoyed an incredible prep career in Louisville before spending the last four seasons at Central Michigan, and safety Leron Eaddy (pronounced ee-dee), who played for Cannon the past three seasons in the Chippewas secondary, will play their final respective college seasons as Governors.

APSU Governors Football Head Coach Kirby Cannon hires Josh Richards as Wide Receiver Coach

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Josh Richards, who coached five seasons under Austin Peay State head coach Kirby Cannon at Missouri S&T, has been hired as the Governors wide receivers coach. Richards replaces Paul Derrick, who recently resigned his coaching position to return to the high school level.

Veteran Govs’ assistant Marcus Gildersleeve will move into Derrick’s vacated running backs coaching position with Richards assuming wide receiver coaching duties.

After Deuce McAllister was released by the New Orleans Saints on February 17, I wrote the following column regarding my feelings towards my all time favorite football player.

I have to admit it, today was awful. It was absolutely awful. Even if you don’t follow football, or think that “it’s just a ballgame”, today was still awful.
