Instant Peay Play: Month-long road trip faces APSU Men’s Basketball after home opener

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) men’s basketball team opens its 2018-19 regular season at home this Tuesday, November 6th, 2018 at the Dunn Center with a 7:00pm contest versus Oakland City, but then packs it bags for a month-long, seven-game road trip.

The extended road swing for the Governors will be the longest such stretch of games for APSU in the regular season since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, when they opened their schedule with nine straight games away from Clarksville – including two Ohio Valley Conference contests.

Kristen Stucker named APSU Athlete of the Month

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University volleyball’s junior setter Kristen Stucker has been named the Chick-Fil-A Austin Peay Student-Athlete of the Month.

A Johnston, Iowa native, Stucker won four adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Setter of the Week honors in September, leading the Govs to a 13-1 record in September and sole possession atop the OVC standings to begin October.

In posting 602 assists (11.36/set) for the month, Stucker spread the ball around to a host of teammates as Ashley Slay (200), Christina White (160), Brooke Moore (108), Kaylee Taff (90), Logan Carger (66) and Cecily Gable (54) each averaged better than a kill per set during the month.

APSU Men's TennisTulsa, OK – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis representative Christian Edison fought valiantly all the way into the Round of 32 at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championship on Sunday afternoon, but ultimately fell just short of the qualifying draw to conclude the Governors portion of the competition.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Volleyball primed to make deep OVC run in 2017

 

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team reports this weekend looking to build off its turnaround campaign of 2016 and make a deep run at its first Ohio Valley Conference championship since 2010.

The Governors are coming off a 24-11 season last fall — a 12.5 game improvement from its 10-22 record in 2015 – the fifth-best season improvement in NCAA Division I in 2016 and trailing only Quinnipiac, Notre Dame, Northeastern and Bowling Green.

Sergio Ruoco to join APSU Men’s Basketball staff as an assistant coach

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – As Austin Peay State University head men’s basketball coach Matt Figger begins to round out his coaching staff, an important piece to the puzzle was added this week as Sergio Ruoco became the third full-time assistant to join Figger’s first staff at APSU.

Ruoco was last at South Florida, where he spent three seasons as an assistant for Orlando Antigua and Murry Bartow.
