APSU Governors Football set to play Tennessee Volunteers for first time

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUKnoxville, TN – The curtain will rise on the Kirby Cannon Era, 5:00pm, Saturday, when Austin Peay State University plays Tennessee for the first time in program history.

Cannon, who was hired as Austin Peay’s 18th head coach in mid-March, is only the third APSU coach hired in the last 50 years that owned previous college-coaching head-coaching experience.

Craig Salley, Iosua Siliva, Gavin Willisson, and Tim Phillips are the 2013 APSU Governors Team Captains

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University football team has announced its captains for the 2013 season.

Senior linebacker Craig Salley, senior defensive end Iosua Siliva, senior tackle Gavin Willisson and first-year senior running back Tim Phillips have been elected the team’s four permanent captains by their teammates. The team voted on captains, Friday night.

The Govs won their last home game – a 56-0 spanking of Culver-Stockton – and look to make it two in a row in Clarksville. Saturday also represents Austin Peay’s last chance to earn an Ohio Valley Conference victory in 2012.

The Wildcats, an NAIA team located in Canton, MO, enter the contest with a 1-8 overall record, but are winless (0-8) in the Heart of American Athletic Conference. They are coming off a 29-9 loss to Baker, the 14th-ranked team in NAIA.

Austin Peay Governors Football commit costly penalties in 31-6 loss to UT Martin Skyhawks

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Derek Carr threw for 266 yards and two first-half touchdowns to lead UT Martin to a 31-6 victory, Saturday night, in Ohio Valley Conference action in Governors Stadium.

The Govs remain winless at 0-4, including 0-2 in OVC play. They also are 0-2 in Sergeant York Trophy contests.

Austin Peay's Terrence Oliver rushed for 68 yards Saturday night against the UT Martin Skyhawks. The Governors had 175 rushing yards total on the night.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBlackburg, VA – Logan Thomas threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 15/18 Virginia Tech to a 42-7 victory against resilient Austin Peay State University, Saturday afternoon, in a non-conference game.

Virginia Tech, an Atlantic Coast Conference powerhouse, moves to 2-0 on the season while APSU falls to 0-2. The Govs will open Ohio Valley Conference play next week at Tennessee State.

Austin Peay Governors Football’s Antwaun has proven to be a Major pain to opponents

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – The smallest man in Austin Peay’s secondary is also the most respected player on the Governors defense.

Little has come easy for senior safety Antwaun Majors, a 5-9, 170-pound fifth-year senior. Despite twice earning Region Defensive Player of the Year Award and the prestigious Nick Coutras Award while at Mt. Juliet High School, he came to Austin Peay as a walk-on.
