APSU Softball earns first National Post-Season Tournament Bid with National Invitational Softball Championship selection

APSU SoftballFort Collins, CO – Austin Peay State University’s softball team continues to make history this Spring by earning selection into the National Invitational Softball Championship, as announced Sunday night by the NISC Selection Committee.

It is the first national postseason appearance by the Governors (39-17) in the program’s 33-year history, after posting school bests with a second-place finish during the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season and a third-place finish in the conference’s championship tournament.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsAmes, IA – For the first time since 1977, No. 22 Tennessee and Iowa State will meet on the hardwood this Saturday at Hilton Coliseum as part of ESPN’s Big 12/SEC Challenge. The game will tip at 3:00pm CT and will be televised live on ESPNU and streamed online via WatchESPN.

In its fifth year, UT holds a 2-1 record when competing in the cross-conference showcase, with both victories coming at home over Kansas State. Last year, the Vols (14-5) downed the Wildcats, 70-58, behind a 17-point performance from Grant Williams.

Saturday is Senior Day for the Vols (15-15, 7-10 SEC), who will honor its pair of seniors in a brief ceremony before tipoff. Tennessee will recognize the contributions of four-year senior and 1,000-point scorer Robert Hubbs III as well as graduate transfer Lew Evans. Senior Day ceremonies are slated to begin at 11:40pm.

UT will now venture out on the road — where it is 3-3 this season — for two straight games, beginning with Tuesday’s showdown at Auburn (14-7, 3-5 SEC).

Austin Peay State University inducts Shawn Kelley, Nick Stapleton, Brad Kirtley, Reedy Sears into APSU Athletics Hall of Fame

In addition, a former superb football/basketball player who paid the ultimate price in defense of his country, was selected to the Hall of Fame as part of it Legends category.

Tennessee Titans Practice Squad Changes

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN– The Tennessee Titans added WR Diondre Borel to the practice squad.

Borel (6-0, 199) was an undrafted free agent from Utah State, who signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2011. He spent the entire 2011 season on the Packers practice squad through October of this season.

Titans Agree to Terms With Veteran WR Kevin Curtis

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms on a contract with WR Kevin Curtis.

An eight-year veteran, Curtis (6-0, 186) has totaled 253 receptions, 3,297 yards and 20 touchdowns in 81 NFL games. Curtis was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft from Utah State. He spent four seasons with the Rams before playing three seasons in Philadelphia. Governors to play in College Basketball Invitational Tournament

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the College Basketball Invitational, presented by Zebra Pen.

Late Sunday night it was learned the Governors will be playing Boise State, Tuesday night. The Broncos, who lost in the Western Athletic Conference championship game to Utah State, enter the game at 20-12.

All first-round games will be played Tuesday and Wednesday followed by quarterfinals Monday, March 21st, and semifinals, Wednesday, March 23rd.
