So let’s take steps to turn that 18,000 around. This Wednesday, April 1st, is National Walking Day. The American Heart Association is asking Middle Tennessee to walk a total of 18,000 minutes. Everyone is asked to take a heart-healthy walk wherever they are, and to “donate” their minutes walked toward the goal.

10,000 to walk for Hearts at Greater Nashville Heart Walk this Saturday, October 4th
The annual event is the largest fundraiser for the American Heart Association in the Nashville area, and funds go to vital research, public health programs and community education to fight heart disease and stroke, which together kill 1 in 3 Americans. This year’s fundraising goal is $2 million.

The Heart Walk website is now open for team registration and fundraising. Teams are encouraged to sign up at www.nashvilleheartwalk.org . Individuals can also join existing teams and set their own personal goals. There is no registration fee.

More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. In Tennessee, about 9000 women die each year from cardiovascular disease.
