APSU Governors Baseball picked 2nd in OVC Preseason Poll

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team was picked to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference’s preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors, Friday.

Despite losing six position starters from last season’s squad, the league’s coaches and sports information directors awarded Austin Peay 164 points and two first-place votes. The Govs were picked behind defending regular-season champion Tennessee Tech, which received 19 first-place votes and 199 total points.

APSU Governors Baseball set to begin Second Round of OVC Tournament Thursday

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s nationally-ranked baseball team will put its program-record 12-game win streak on the line when it opens Ohio Valley Conference Tournament play with a 3:00pm, Thursday contest against an opponent to be determined.

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – Junior Craig Massoni hit .634 and senior Casey Delgado struck out 16 batters to lead Austin Peay State University to a road sweep against UT Martin last weekend, earning the pair adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced, Monday.

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – A battle of the Ohio Valley Conference’s second and third place teams will take place when Austin Peay hosts Tennessee Tech in a three-game set, Friday-Sunday, at Raymond C. Hand Park.

With the 11-week OVC regular-season race entering its fifth week, the second-place Governors sit just percentage points ahead of the third-place Golden Eagles.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball selected as 2013 OVC Baseball’s Preseason Favorite

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will enter the 2012 campaign as the pick to win the Ohio Valley Conference’s regular-season title, as selected in the league’s preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors.

In addition, junior second baseman Jordan Hankins was selected as Preseason Co-Player of the Year.  He was joined on the Preseason All-OVC team by senior shortstop Reed Harper and senior outfielder Cody Hudson.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball lose to Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 5-0 and fall into tie for OVC lead

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team could not solve Tennessee Tech starting pitcher Tristan Archer in a 5-0 Ohio Valley Conference loss, Thursday night, at Bush Stadium.

Tennessee Tech (21-30, 10-14 OVC) is in must-win territory to maintain its hopes of qualifying for next weekend’s six-team OVC Tournament and Archer (4-4) showed the Golden Eagles fight. He struck out a career-high 13 batters in the win and limiting the Govs to four hits over 8.1 innings.

Dobbs stymies Golden Eagles, leads Govs to win

 

APSU Men’s Baseball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJackson, TN – Starter Jeremy Dobbs allowed one run over eight-plus innings and led Austin Peay State University’s baseball team to a 2-1 victory against Tennessee Tech, Thursday night, in Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship action at Pringles Park.

After working out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, Dobbs (9-2) got rolling in the second. He surrendered a leadoff walk in the second but wiped it out immediately as the Golden Eagles attempted to sacrifice the runner over but Dobbs jumped on the ball and started a double play that included a beautiful turn by shortstop Reed Harper.
