APSU Men’s Golf
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team got off to a rough start in its season-opening tournament, the USF Invitational played at Lake Jovita Golf Club.
The Govs shot an opening-round 315 and sits in 20th, 41 strokes off the tournament’s early leader, Middle Tennessee. Jacksonville State, the only other Ohio Valley Conference school in the event, is t-9th after an opening-round 293.

Senior Luke Sherrod leads the Govs with a five-over par 77. Sherrod made three straight birdies to finish the front nine even, but ran into trouble after making the turn. He double-bogeyed Nos. 10 and 12, and made only one birdie over the last six holes.
Freshman Marco Iten is one shot behind Sherrod after an opening-round 78. Unlike Sherrod, Iten’s trouble came on the front nine. Iten had a pair of double-bogeys early, but settled in to shoot just two over on the back nine.
Austin Peay’s other two counting scores were a pair of 80s from sophomore Dustin Korte and freshman Trey Tarpley. Korte was one-over after nine holes, but made two doubles and a bogey to start the back nine. Tarpley, meanwhile, finished his round with three doubles and three bogeys, offset by a lone birdie on No. 17.
The USF Invitational continues, Saturday, when the Govs tee off at 12:45pm, in a pairing with Florida Atlantic and Rhode Island.
