Breigh Jones to represent APSU at Junior Pan Am Games

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – When classes start next week at Austin Peay State University, rising sophomore Breigh Jones will have one of the best ‘What did you do this summer?’ stories.

That’s because Jones will be returning from representing Team USA at the 2013 Junior Pan American Games in Medellin, Colombia, August 23rd-25th. The Memphis Tennessee native will compete as part of the 4x400m relay team.

Jones is the fourth Austin Peay athlete to earn a national team spot since the beginning of 2012 – joining former Govs baseball player Jordan Hankins (USA Baseball) and soccer players Tatiana and Natalia Ariza (Colombian 2012 Summer Olympic team). She will be Austin Peay’s first-ever track and field participant in the Pan Am games.

Since qualifying for the Pan Am games at the Junior National Championships in Des Moines, June 22nd, Jones has continued to train in Memphis and in Clarksville with Austin Peay assistant coach Valerie Brown.

Upon joining her national teammates, she will practice with Texas’s Courtney Okolo, UCLA’s Kendall Baisden and Florida’s Robin Reynolds seeking the United State’s sixth consecutive 4x400m relay gold medal at the Junior Pan Am Games.

Jones and the rest of the US 4x400m team will begin their quest for gold at 11:20am (CT), Sunday, in the semifinals. The women’s 4x400m final will take place under the lights at 7:10pm (CT), the final women’s event on the Junior meet schedule.
