Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.
This weeks highlights include: Christmas in Occupied Clarksville, Swim with Santa, Santa’s Elves to Visit Crow Community Center, Christmas on the Cumberland and Free Activities, 2014 Queen City Road Race Art Contest and Indoor Soccer for Youth.

Christmas in Occupied Clarksville
Come to the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center Sunday, December 15th, 2013 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, to experience the holidays as soldiers and civilians did in the 1860s.
Visitors to the event will be able to step back in time and see period decorations, visit with a nineteenth century Santa, and enjoy eggnog, cakes and caroling.
The event is free and open to the public.
Swim with Santa
This year your child can Swim with Santa at the Indoor Aquatic Center! Santa will be visiting the pool from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, December 15th. Families can enjoy refreshments, crafts with Mrs. Claus, a photo booth and swimming!
When Santa heads back to the North Pole, feel free to stick around and swim! Cost is $3.00 and covers admission to the pool. Everyone entering the facility must pay admission.
Santa’s Elves to Visit Crow Community Center
Families are welcome to have photos taken of their children as they visit with Santa’s elves, enjoy snacks and games, all at no cost.
Children will also have the opportunity to write letters to Santa!
Christmas on the Cumberland and Free Activities
Come enjoy the popular Christmas on the Cumberland walk-through event now through January 4th. Event hours are 5:00pm-10:00pm, Sunday through Thursday and 5:00pm-11:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Don’t miss this weekend’s free activities taking place from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the McGregor Park Museum:
- Friday, December 20th – Cookie decorating
- Saturday, December 22nd – “Giving on the Cumberland” drop off night
2014 Queen City Road Race Art Contest
The Queen City Road Race Art Contest is underway for students in grades 1st through 5th. Two semi-finalists from each participating school will be selected and awarded an art kit and certificate.
Among those semi-finalists will be the top three finalists who will also win a Subway party for their art class. As well as those prizes, the first place winning artist will win a framed poster of their artwork, an official race t-shirt featuring their artwork and $100.00 for their art class.
Artwork may be done in any medium although there is a 5 color use maximum. Simple designs are encouraged, and copyrighted material will not be accepted. Lastly, art must be on 8 1/2×11 paper or canvas; no construction paper.
All completed artwork must be submitted to the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department no later than 4:30pm on January 10th. Art teachers may arrange for pick-ups at schools no later than January 10th.
The Queen City Road Race, sponsored by Cumberland Bank and Trust, will take place Saturday, May 3rd at 8:00am. The event will include a 5k, 7k, and One Mile Movement.
Indoor Soccer for Youth
The Crow Community Center’s Indoor Soccer Instruction teaches the fundamentals of soccer. This 8-week session is open to ages 4-12 years, but only the 7-9 and 10-12 age groups have spots available.
Games will be held at the center every Saturday beginning January 4th. Cost is $20.00 for the entire program. Register today at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.
