Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team begins its first road trip in 2016, 7:00pm, Friday at Lipscomb, before a 5:00pm, Saturday match at Southern Indiana.

APSU finally opened the season, January 30th, hosting Chattanooga in a contest won by the Mocs, 4-3.
Junior Aaron Jumonville, who was ranked fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason rankings, began the season on a high note, defeating UTC’s John Peacey, 6-4, 6-2.
Fellow classmate James Mitchell earned APSU’s other singles victory, picking up a three-set nod over Paul LaHue. Jumonville and Mitchell also teamed together to gain a doubles win over the Mocs, while sophomore Aleh Drobysh and freshman Alex Kartsonis helped the Govs win the doubles point after a 7-6(5) decision over Michael Birnbaum and Nick Wingord.
Lipscomb (0-4) has taken on a challenging schedule to begin its campaign, playing the likes of SEC foes Vanderbilt and Alabama. Similar to Austin Peay, the Bisons have a young squad, with six sophomores making up over half the roster.
Southern Indiana (1-0) has competed in one match thus far, sweeping Indiana Southeast, 9-0. The Screaming Eagles received strong recognition in preseason polls, most notably being ranked 32nd nationally and fourth in the Midwest Region according to ITA. In addition, USI was picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division.
Austin Peay has won the last three meetings against USI dating back to the 2012-13 season, while the Govs are 2-1 vs. Lipscomb in that span.
