Hilton Head Island, SC – Not a lot of birdies were to be found by Austin Peay State University men’s golf team, Tuesday, in the final round of 11th Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, played at the Wexford Plantation Course.

Starting the tourney’s final 18 holes in 15th place that is where the Governors ended, shooting a final-round 302 to end at 909.
Campbell ran away with the tournament, shooting a final-round 9-under 279 to end at 17 under at 847. Louisville was second, 15 shots back.
Senior Austin Kramer and junior Erik Hedberg had the Govs’ low rounds of the day, shooting 3-over 75. Hedberg was 4-over through nine holes before ending the round with a par, a birdie and then five straight pars. Hedberg and senior Tyler Phillips, who ended the day with five straight pars, were the two Govs who finished the strongest.
Kramer, for instance, after a birdie on his 16th hole, turned around and made bogey on the next hole. Sophomore Justin Arens, who finished at 6-over 78, also went birdie-bogey on his 16th and 17th while Chris Baker, who was sitting at 1-over after 16 on a day that consisted of three birdies and four bogeys to that point, finished with bogey-double bogey. Baker ended as the Govs’ top finisher, ending in a 27th-place tie at 6-over 222.
The Governors now will have a few weeks to continue refining their respective games before heading to Pinehurst, North Carolina, March 11th-12th, for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
