Tennessee Titans 2018 Schedule released

Tennessee Titans

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – Two Monday Night Football games, the most since 2007, and a total of three primetime games headline the Tennessee Titans 2018 schedule. Their first MNF appearance of the season comes at the Dallas Cowboys on November 5th, followed by a second on November 26th at the Houston Texans.

The Titans open the season at the Miami Dolphins on September 9th, and return to Nissan Stadium for their home-opener against the Houston Texans on September 16th. The Titans will host AFC South Division winners the Jacksonville Jaguars in a nationally-televised Thursday night contest on December 6th.

“The first thing I look at on the schedule are those quick turnaround games, the ones you are going to have to work ahead and you are going to have to have your team ready to take on another challenging opponent,” said Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. “Guys (the players) are always looking at Thanksgiving and Christmas to see where we are because that is what the family wants to know about.

“Primetime games are important. Monday night, we will go on the road for those two games. We will get to have our fans here on a Thursday night to help us on a short week.

“Most of the guys have played in Miami and Jacksonville and all of those places where it is going to be warm in September at 12:00pm. Just making sure that whether we started at home or on the road, that our team is well-conditioned, ready and prepared.

“We have talked (as a team) about having to embrace the buzz around the football team but also being able to manage expectations and understand that we are back at square one.”

The Titans schedule features home games against Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texasns and Indianapolis Colts.

The Tennessee Titans will travel to the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts. Additionally, the game against the Los Angeles Chargers will be played in London.

Flexible scheduling may be applied in Weeks 5-16. During that period, flexible scheduling can be used by the NFL by shifting a Sunday afternoon game into primetime and moving the Sunday night game to an afternoon start time. Additionally, the Titans Week 16 contest against Washington will be played on either December 22nd or 23rd. The NFL will choose two of four undated games no later than following Week 8 to fill the two game slots on Saturday, December 22nd. The other two games will be played on Sunday, December 23rd.

For Week 17, the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to December 30th. The NFL schedule does not list a Sunday night game in Week 17, but an afternoon game with playoff implications will be moved to that time slot.

Additionally, the Tennessee Titans released their preseason dates and times. Tennessee opens the preseason slate of games on the road at the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, August 9th at 7:00pm (central). Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Nissan Stadium will be played on Saturday, August 18th at 7:00pm (central), and the two teams will practice together in Nashville in the days leading up to the game with final details to be released at a later date. Week 3 at the Pittsburgh Steelers is set for 3:00pm (central) on August 25th and the finale against the Minnesota Vikings will be on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00pm (central).

2018 Tennessee Titans Schedule Notes

  • The Titans play at least three primetime games during the regular season for the first time since 2009, when they played four primetime games.  Two Monday night games are on the schedule for the first time since 2007.
  • The Titans have seven consecutive games and eight total games against teams that were .500 or better in 2017 (down from nine such games a season ago): Jacksonville (twice), Philadelphia, Buffalo, Baltimore, the L.A. Chargers, Dallas and New England.
  • The Titans have five games against playoff teams from 2017: Jacksonville (two games), Philadelphia, Buffalo and New England.  Three of those games (at Jacksonville, Philadelphia and at Buffalo) will be played consecutively.  The Titans had six games last season against incumbent postseason participants.
  • The Titans’ 2018 strength of schedule based on last season’s results is .465.  Their 16 opponents (division opponents counted twice) went a combined 119-137-0 in 2017.
  • The Titans and Dolphins will match up for the 10th time in a 15-year span and for the eighth time in South Florida during that period.
  • Sept. 9 marks the fourth all-time season opener for the Titans/Oilers against the Dolphins and the first such occasion since 2004, when the game was played in South Florida a day early due to the approaching Hurricane Ivan.
  • The Titans open the regular season on the road for the first time since 2015.
  • The Titans host both of last year’s Super Bowl participants.  The Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles play at Nissan Stadium on September 30th, and the AFC Champion New England Patriots visit on November 11th.
  • The Eagles and the Redskins will each be making only their third Nissan Stadium appearance in the regular season and their first since 2010.
  • The Titans-Chargers game at Wembley Stadium marks the franchise’s first regular season game at an overseas stadium. As the Houston Oilers, the franchise played preseason games in Tokyo (Tokyo Dome, 1992) and Mexico City (Stadium Azteca, 1994).
  • This is the second consecutive season in which the Titans will enjoy a Week 8 bye.  They have an extra day during the bye week this season due to their post-bye Monday night game at Dallas (November 5th).
  • Dallas is the western-most city the Titans will visit in either the preseason or the regular season.
  • November 5th marks the first regular season primetime game in Dallas for the Titans/Oilers franchise.
  • The Patriots will be making their fourth appearance at Nissan Stadium.  Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has started all three previous contests (2-1). The two most recent Titans-Patriots games have occurred in Foxborough, Mass., including their Divisional playoff matchup in January.
  • For the first time in the “Titans era” (since 1999), the Titans play four December home games and play four of their final five games at home.
  • The Titans and Jaguars square off in a Thursday night matchup for the fourth time in six seasons.  In all Thursday night games at Nissan Stadium, the Titans are 3-2.
  • For the second consecutive season, the Titans do not play any of their regular season opponents during the preseason.
