Austin Peay State University (APSU)
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University College of Business is working to make tax season a little less stressful this year by providing free tax preparation through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
The program is open to anyone with an annual income of $55,000 or less, individuals with disabilities or community members with limited English skills.
Austin Peay business students went through vigorous training – including approximately 32 tax-training modules and several practice returns – and passed three certification exams with a score of 80 percent or higher to become IRS-certified volunteers.
Appointments can be made by calling 931.221.6590, but walk-ins are welcome. The VITA program will be housed in the APSU Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, 322 Home Avenue, and students will offer tax preparation from 1:00pm-7:00pm Tuesday and Wednesday, 1:00pm-4:00pm on Thursdays and 10:00am-4:00pm on Saturdays.
The VITA program will remain open (except for Saturday, March 10th) until the final tax-filing day on April 10th.
Anyone with questions may either stop by the program site during operating hours or email Jennifer D. Thayer, assistant professor of business, at thayerj@aspu.edu
