APSU Softball’s Red Teams comes out on top of Black Team, 6-3

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Red Team scored five seventh-inning runs to rally past the Black Team Tuesday afternoon at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field, as they won its annual inter-squad fall classic tiebreaker, 6-3.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh, Kylie Campbell got the Red Team’s rally going with a one-out double, followed by an RBI single from Mykenzi Duke to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Red Team would add on two more insurance runs in the inning on an infield error to extend the lead to 6-3.

“Red Lightning takes Game 3!” said Red Team captain Ashlyn Dulaney. “This weekend was such a fun and competitive series. Each team fought until the very end. I am so proud of the Red Squad for not giving up and finishing the day with a win.

“We had people playing positions they hadn’t been in the whole fall and showing out for Red Squad. Our bats came alive, and we showed everyone who Austin Peay softball is! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the series.”

Emma Thompson would get the win in relief for the Red Team, pitching the final two innings and giving up one run on three hits, while starter Emberly Nichols went the first five-plus innings, giving up two runs – one earned – on three hits while walking one and striking out three.
