Austin Peay State University Student-Athletes finish fall semester with record 3.110 GPA

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – An impressive fall semester for Austin Peay State University’s student athletes translated into the classroom with the department’s varsity teams posting a record 3.110 grade-point average for the Fall 2017 semester.

The department saw a record 204 student-athletes receive academic recognition during the recently concluded fall semester. Records also fell with the total number of athletes named to the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll (97), earning Austin Peay dean’s list recognition (107) and posting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semester (51).

APSU Student-Athletes shape the future with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Policies surrounding the well-being of a student-athletes is something often talked about, but not always implemented.

For senior softball player Alexis Hill, who has been the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee the past two years, promoting a healthy and manageable balance for athletes on the campus of Austin Peay has been a goal from the very beginning. This year, that goal has become a reality.

Hill, along with the SAAC secretary at APSU and women’s cross country/track athlete Sarah-Emily Woodward, recently attended the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Fall Meetings, in which athletes across the conference made their way to Nashville to discuss championship strategies, mental health, mentoring programs and much more with conference and national officials.

APSU welcomes student-athletes back to campus

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics welcomed back its student-athletes to campus, Sunday night, with a barbecue dinner in the Dunn Center.

During a short program, new APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey, whose first official day is Monday, introduced himself to nearly 300 student-athletes.  Ivey then introduced APSU President Alisa White, who spoke about the many positive things occurring in the campus community.

Young students encouraged to focus on education by Austin Peay State University Student Athletes

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Several Austin Peay State University student-athletes spoke to the students at Moore Magnet Elementary School Thursday afternoon and encouraged them to stay focused in school.

The five Austin Peay student-athletes spoke to the 200-plus elementary school students about the importance of a good education, goal-setting, perseverance and overcoming adversity.

Austin Peay State University Athletes help incoming freshmen move in

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – With freshmen moving into the dormitories, Austin Peay State University athletic teams took a break, Thursday, from their practice scheduless to help the incoming students move into their respective rooms.

Volleyball, football, soccer along with the cross-country teams—the programs already amid practicing—were the prime movers but got help from several other programs and their coaches as well as athletics administrators.

“Govs Give Back” takes place Saturday

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University student-athletes will be out in force, Saturday morning, for the third-annual Govs Give Back event.

Sponsored by Austin Peay’s FCA and partnered with Manna Café, Austin Peay student-athletes will gather at Burt School at 8:00am to begin unloading trucks sent from the Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville to provide food for those in need in the Clarksville community.
