Grant Leaver, Ed Bunio, Bob Bradley inducted into APSU’s Athletics Hall of Fame

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – One of the greatest Golf Governors in Austin Peay State University history plus a former football standout who returned to his alma mater to help guide the program to its only Ohio Valley Conference title were inducted into the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday morning in a breakfast ceremony in the Dunn Center’s Hall of Fame lobby.

In addition, a former superb basketball player from Austin Peay’s small college era was enshrined as part of the Hall of Fame’s Honors category.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – One of the greatest golfers in the Governors illustrious history plus a former football standout who returned to his alma mater to help coach the program to its only Ohio Valley Conference title have been selected to Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

In addition, a former superb basketball player from Austin Peay’s small college era was selected to the Hall of Fame as part of it Honors category.

Grant Leaver, a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree who won five individual championships and played in the 2008 NCAA East Regional; Ed Bunio, a two-way player who was an All-OVC offensive tackle for the 1964 8-1-1 club and later was the architect for 1977 Governors’ championship defense, have been elected to APSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Bob Bradley, who was a key member of two College Division NCAA teams in 1960-61, was chosen as this year’s honors inductee.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team continues its season-opening eight-match road trip when it meets Evansville in a 7:00pm, Tuesday nonconference contest at the Carson Center.

Both Austin Peay (0-3) and Evansville (0-3) enter the midweek tilt seeking their season’s first victory.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Golf to play in EKU Colonel Classic this weekend

 

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsRichmond, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will be a part of a 13-team field this weekend at the EKU Colonel Classic at the Arlington Club.

The two-day, 54-hole event (36 holes Friday, 18 Saturday) will be played on a 5,809-yard, par-72 natural hill layout at Arlington. The golfers will be greeted with zoysia fairways, fescue bluegrass roughs and bent grass tees and greens. It will begin with a shotgun start, 7:30am (CDT), Friday.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Golf in fifth place after first day of Belmont Invitational

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsOld Hickory, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team sits in fifth place after the first day of the Belmont Invitational, being played at Old Hickory Golf Club.

The Lady Govs shot a first-day 323, Monday, on the par-72, 5,983-yard layout. Tuesday’s final round will begin with an 8:30am shotgun start.

Lady Govs 2011-12 Golf Schedule

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will play a familiar tournament schedule in the 2011-12 season.

The Lady Govs will be participating in 11 tournaments in 2011-12—six in the fall and five in the spring. Only the Lady Govs’ spring break tournament schedule is still to be determined.

The remaining 10 tournaments, culminating with the Ohio Valley Conference championship, April 21st-24th, at Greystone in Dickson, are all events APSU has played in recent years, beginning September 4th at the JSU Chris Banister Golf Classic in Glencoe, AL.

Lady Govs golf set to play final regular-season tourney at EKU

 

APSU Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will play in its final regular-season tournament this weekend in the 54-hole EKU Lady Colonel Classic, Saturday and Sunday, at the Arlington Golf Course.

The tourney will begin with an 8:30am shotgun start each day on the par-72, 5,801-yard layout. The 13-team field will represent 12 schools (host Eastern Kentucky will play two teams), including six Ohio Valley Conference members. In addition to APSU and EKU, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech will participate.  Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Marshall, Ohio, Southern Illinois and Toledo also will be competing.

Lady Govs golf finishes tied for fourth at Belmont

Austin Peay State University GovernorsOld Hickory, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team finished in a fourth-place tie with Tennessee Tech at the weather-shortened Belmont Invitational, concluded Tuesday at Old Hickory Country Club.

After playing nine holes, Monday, before storms interrupted the competition, the tourney was reduced to 18 holes, with the final nine holes being completed Tuesday afternoon.
