Tennessee Lady Vols leave Columbia with 62-60 win over Missouri

UT Lady VolsColumbia, MO – The Tennessee Lady Vols earned a hard-fought victory over RV/RV Missouri on Sunday, coming from four points down in the final stanza to claim a 62-60 triumph in front of a crowd of 8,559 in Mizzou Arena.

Sophomore point guard Evina Westbrook led UT (17-8, 6-6 SEC) with 18 points and six assists, while sophomore forward Rennia Davis logged her 17th career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Meme Collins also found her way into double digits, tying her career high of 11 points while adding six rebounds.
 
MU (19-8, 8-5 SEC) was led by Amber Smith with 14 points and five rebounds. Sophie Cunningham and Cierra Porter were close behind with 13 apiece.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN –  No. 10/10 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (12-1, 1-0 SEC) plays its second straight game against a team with a Tiger mascot, as Missouri (12-3, 1-0 SEC) comes to town for a Sunday matinee. Tip-off is slated for 1:02pm CT at Thompson-Boling Arena, with the game being broadcast by ESPN2 and the Lady Vol Radio Network.

On Thursday night, the Tennessee Lady Vols improved to 31-6 all-time and 6-1 during the Holly Warlick era in SEC openers, outlasting a talented Auburn team (12-2, 0-1 SEC) on the road, 78-69. The win was UT’s fourth straight after suffering its only loss on December 18th to No. 8/9 Stanford in Knoxville, 95-85.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN No. 11/11 Tennessee (21-5, 9-4 SEC) begins a two-game road swing Sunday, facing No. 13/13 Missouri (21-5, 9-4 SEC) in Mizzou Arena at 1:00pm CT/ 2:00pm ET.

In what will be the 10th meeting between the two programs, Tennessee will look to recover from a 72-63 loss to Alabama while the Tigers are looking to extend their streak of consecutive wins to five.

Leading into Tennessee’s loss to Alabama, the Lady Vols had won four straight games.

The most recent feather in Tennessee’s cap was a 62-46 win over #18/18 Georgia on Sunday afternoon in front of a “Live Pink, Bleed Orange” crowd of 12,523 in Knoxville, improving UT’s record against ranked teams to 6-3 this season.

Tennessee Lady Vols pull away from Missouri Tigers late for 77-66 win

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN Diamond DeShields fired in 22 points, as the Lady Vols pulled away from the Tigers in the fourth quarter to win, 77-66, in Thompson-Boling Arena on Thursday night.

Although the teams fought neck and neck through the first three periods of play, #24/25 Tennessee (16-8, 7-4 SEC) exploded in the fourth to put a gritty Missouri team (16-9, 6-5 SEC) away behind 75 percent shooting from the field during the period.

UT had four players in double digits for the night. DeShields’ 22 points marked the ninth time this season she cracked the 20-plus plateau. She also added six rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in the contest.

The game tips off at 6:00pm CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network and will be available online through WatchESPN. UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The #13/16 Lady Vols (9-3) will open up SEC play with a road trip to #23/RV Missouri (13-0) at Mizzou Arena on Monday. Tipoff is slated for 6:00pm CT (7:00pm ET), and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network and streamed via WatchESPN.

The game will take center stage in the league, as the rest of the SEC’s teams play on Sunday. This marks the first time since 1978 these programs have met with both squads ranked nationally.

Mizzou is off to its best start in school history, while the Big Orange women are riding a two-game win streak after dropping three out of five from late November to mid-December.
