2015 APSU Governors Golf Classic has Record Turnout

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – With a record number of teams, players and courses, Austin Peay State University’s annual Governors Golf Classic, in conjunction with the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, enjoyed its finest showing in the event’s 29-year history, Friday.

Golfers competed at the Clarksville Country Club, Swan Lake Golf Course and at the Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville – the first time participation numbers demanded the event expand to three courses. In all, more than 80 teams appeared on the three courses, featuring more than 300 players.

Austin Peay State University Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic set for Friday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic and Partner Celebration Dinner is Friday and pairings have been announced for the one-day, three-course tournament.

The event, which has seen APSU Athletics and the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce combined their two tournaments, will be played Friday at the Clarksville Country Club, Swan Lake Golf Course and The Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville, KY.

The shotgun start for the four-player, best-ball scramble is 10:30am at the three courses.

Tyler Guy wins Mann Smith & Cummings Tournament of Champions in play-off

 

Mann Smith & Cummings Insurance - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – It took a playoff for a winner to emerge from the eight elite golfers Sunday afternoon in the final round of the Mann, Smith & Cummings Tournament of Champions at Swan Lake Golf Course.

The leaders from the 1st round, two-time former champion Brian Balthrop and UT-Martin standout Tyler Guy, went to extra holes after finishing the two regulation rounds tied at 136. Both hit solid approach shots on the second playoff hole that set up short putts for birdies. However, Balthrop’s putt lipped out and he had to settle for par. Tyler Guy lined seized his opportunity, and after making his birdie putt, the Tournament Championship was his.

Mann Smith & Cummings Insurance - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Tyler Guy leads an elite field of 8 Clarksville area golfers, after the first round of the Mann Smith & Cummings Tournament of Champions, played at Swan Lake Golf Course, firing a solid 3 under par round of 68.

Guy commented that he was confident off the tee box, and knew his shots would pretty much settle where they landed. The former Rossview High School star and current UT Martin stand-out played with confidence,on a wet and soggy golf course.

Brian Balthrop closes with a round of 68 to take Clarksville Mayor’s Golf Classic by six shots

 

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Shooting a final-round three-under 68, Brian Balthrop broke a three-way tie heading into the round September 15th to run away and take the 34th Mayor’s Golf Classic by a six shot margin.

The victory was the second of the season for Balthrop (71-68—139), who also won the Clarksville City Amateur back in August.

Clarksville City Amateur Golf Tournament won by Brian Balthrop on final hole as he birdies to edge Graham Sleigh

 

Clarksville Sports Network - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Brian Balthrop and Graham Sleigh went back-and-fourth all day Sunday, July 21st, at Swan Lake Course in the final round of the 2013 Clarksville City Amateur Tournament, but a final birdie on the final hole earned Balthrop his third career City Am title.

Jeff Chandler, Greg Guinn lead after first round of Commanding General’s Golf Tournament at Fort Campbell’s Cole Park Golf Course

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Familiar names are atop the leaderboard after the June 8th first round of the Commanding General’s Golf Tournament, at Cole Park Golf Course, with Jeff Chandler leading the Open Division and Greg Guinn setting the pace in the Senior Division.

The tournament concludes June 9th with the final 18 holes, starting with the first tee times beginning at 7:00am.

Chandler fired a six-under 66 to lead a group of eight golfers that carded under-par rounds on the opening day – with Drew Miller just a shot back with a five-under 67, which included a bogie on the final hole of the day.

Wendy’s Invitational opening round led by Brian Balthrop

 

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Former Austin Peay and Clarksville High School standout Brian Balthrop fired a 68 Saturday to take a one-shot lead into Sunday’s final round of the Wendy’s Invitational Golf Tournament at the Swan Lake Golf Course.

Balthrop, who finished a single stroke short of forcing a three-way playoff with Greg Guinn and Jeff Chandler at the 2011 Wendy’s, appeared in control for much of the afternoon Saturday, taking advantage of Swan Lake’s new Bermuda greens.

Brian Balthrop, Josh Black battle back to claim Tri-Fecta title at Cole Park Golf Course

Clarksville Sports NetworkFort Campbell, KY – Entering the final nine holes of Sunday’s First Advantage Two Man Tri-Fecta at Fort Campbell’s Cole Park Golf Course, Brian Balthrop and Josh Black found themselves facing a three-shot deficit.

Nine regulation holes later, however, the twosome found themselves atop the leaderboard of the first-year event, winning the Championship Flight before then claiming the first Clarksville Golf Association tournament title of 2012 in a one-hole playoff.
