Blanchfield Army Community Hospital Soldier recognized during annual Medic recognition
Maj. Gen. Richard W. Thomas, Director of Healthcare Operations for the Defense Health Agency, served as the keynote speaker at the event, hosted by Fort Campbell’s Armed Services YMCA. Lander was among 16 medics honored, nearly half of whom served in Vietnam. Day of the Eagles is a tradition to honor past and present 101st Airborne Division Soldiers. The first “Week of the Eagles” celebration was held in 1973, a year after the division was welcomed back from Vietnam. This year’s Day of the Eagles themes are “Once a Screaming Eagle, always a Screaming Eagle,” and “Continued legacy of dominance and dependability in battle.” ![]() Maj. Gen. Gary J. All competitors scaled the ladder of excellence, but only two would Rendezvous with Destiny. Spc. Carissa Payeur, a health care specialist, with Company C, 526th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, and Sgt. David Payton, an infantryman, with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, earned the chance to move ahead to compete at the XVIII Airborne Corps Soldier and noncommissioned officer of the year competition scheduled for June 9th-11th at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. ![]() Sgt.
