Nashville Sounds fall in extra innings to Memphis Redbirds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Breyvic Valera launched a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning to help the Memphis Redbirds to a 2-1 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of a sellout crowd of 10,148 Sunday night at First Tennessee Park.

The two teams played to an even 1-1 game after nine innings of play. Valera’s go-ahead shot came on a 1-1 pitch from Kyle Finnegan with two outs in the inning.

Armed with a one-run lead, Redbirds reliever Josh Lucas set the Sounds down in order in the bottom of the 10th to notch his sixth win of the season.

Memphis Redbirds snatch win from Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Memphis Redbirds scored two runs in the ninth inning to steal a 3-2 win from the Nashville Sounds in front of another sellout crowd of 11,484 at First Tennessee Park Saturday night.

The Sounds (42-47) were in control for most of the night before the Redbirds’ two-out rally in the final inning. Nashville reliever Josh Smith retired the first two batters in the frame before Patrick Wisdom singled to left. Smith had two strikes on Todd Cunningham before he worked a walk to put runners at first and second.

Nashville Sounds get swept by Oklahoma City RedHawks in Double Header action at Greer Stadium Friday night

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds dropped both games of their doubleheader Friday night at Greer Stadium against the visiting Oklahoma City RedHawks by the scores of 5-1 and 6-3.

In the opener, Oklahoma City edged the Sounds , 5-1, in extras, plating four runs in the ninth inning.

With the loss, Nashville (28-53) fell to 1-4 in extra-inning play this season.

Jimmy Nelson turned in another strong outing for Nashville but took a no-decision for his work after allowing one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings of work.

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – The Nashville Sounds never recovered from the Oklahoma City RedHawks’ three-run second inning Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, losing their sixth consecutive road game by the score of 4-2.

The RedHawks big inning came against Sounds starting pitcher Johnny Hellweg (1-3), though only the first run he allowed, a Marc Krauss lead-off home run to left field, was earned. The homer was Krauss’ sixth and the first surrendered by Hellweg this season.
