City of Clarksville rebuilds Home on Cedar Street

 

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – On Tuesday, August 27th, 2019, Marion Watkins Jr. had a 73rd birthday party to remember.

Along with cake and balloons, Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and the Clarksville’s Office of Housing & Community Development presented Watkins with a key to his rebuilt home on Cedar Street.

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts presents Marion Watkins Jr. with the keys to his rebuilt home on Cedar Street. HOME, a federal housing program, provided a low-cost guaranteed loan to Watkins, and the City of Clarksville provided a 25 percent match and managed the project.

City of Clarksville honors Agencies that fight Homelessness

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and the Office of Housing and Community Development Office paused Thursday to honor Clarksville’s service providers who fight homelessness and hunger.

“You are special folks, the leaders who step up in our community every day to work on the front lines in service to those who need a place to stay, nutritious food, medical care, and shelter from harm,” Mayor Pitts said. “I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the work you do to help our people and make Clarksville such a caring community.”

Clarksville Group continues work on Suicide Prevention

 

Clarksville Group joins ‘National Strategy’ to help Soldiers, Veterans, Families

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – A passionate group of leaders gathered in Clarksville last week to continue building a local strategy to prevent suicide among soldiers, veterans and their families.

The group got started last year in response to a U.S. Conference of Mayor’s Challenge to join with two federal agencies — the Veterans Health Administration and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration — to find ways to prevent suicide in military communities.

Five homes to be rebuilt or rehabilitated in Clarksville

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville’s prosperity will be extended to five more moderate- or low-income households, thanks to major projects by the city’s Office of Community & Economic Development.

The office announced this week that three homes are scheduled for major renovations, and two properties will be torn down and replaced with new three-bedroom, two bath homes.

This is a Clarksville neighborhood home that was rebuilt in 2018 by the Clarksville's Office of Community and Economic Development using federal Community Development Block Grants and HOME Investment Partnership Funds. The office has contracted to renovate or rebuild five more homes this spring under these programs.

Miller Town Apartments Renovation adds Affordable Housing in Clarksville

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Miller Town Apartments celebrated a grand reopening Wednesday after renovating all 96 apartment homes, thanks in part to funding assistance from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA).

The apartments are on Jack Miller Boulevard near Fort Campbell and feature two and three-bedroom apartment homes with modern kitchens, an outdoor pool, a playground and a community room.

U.S. military veterans to get first priority in rental applications

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Three newly built homes in Clarksville are complete and available for rent to low-income families, with first priority going to U.S. military veterans, especially those with disabilities.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan helped cut the ribbon Monday morning on the three homes built by Buffalo Valley Inc., in the Providence Pointe subdivision.

Clarksville’s Valleybrook Park reopens with new Playgrounds

 

Federal grants provide updated restrooms, pavilions

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville’s Valleybrook Park, a neighborhood green space on Crossland Avenue near downtown, reopened Monday after a facelift funded with federal grants secured by the City of Clarksville.

Improvements include two new playgrounds, new restrooms, a new pavilion, conversion of the old restrooms to an additional pavilion, and repaving of the parking lot.
