Clarksville, TN – Even though there is still five weeks left before the first official day of fall and one week until classes begin on campus, the athletic school year begins this week for Austin Peay State University (APSU) as the Governors kick-off their official 2019-20 athletic school year this week.
Beginning this Friday, August 23rd, and running through the next seven days after all five of the Govs fall sports (football, soccer, volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country) will kick-off their respective seasons.
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU)’s women’s soccer team and football team have shown some early-season promise this fall, with a couple of shutout victories on the soccer field and two strong showings in preseason football scrimmages.
On the soccer field, the Govs are not only 2-0 under new head coach Naomi Kolarova, but they have yet to give up a goal in a 1-0 victory versus Middle Tennessee at Morgan Brothers Field on August 17th and a 2-0 road victory at Evansville on August 19th.
Clarksville, TN – In the soccer program’s 16-year history, Austin Peay State University has had several of the best players in Ohio Valley Conference history dot its rosters over the years and current Governor Kirstin Robertson is more than making her case of joining that elite group.
Robertson, a 5-4, senior, forward/midfielder from Ashland City, TN, is currently the team’s leading scoring in 2017, which follows a 2016 season where she led the team with 11 goals – the second most in the OVC last year.
Clarksville, TN – Although the first day of classes for Austin Peay State University is still three weeks away, the Govs will see the first of its fall teams square off versus another NCAA member this Tuesday, August 7th, 2017 as the soccer team hosts Indiana State at Morgan Brothers Field at 6:00pm.
It is the only home preseason exhibition contest for the Govs, after just a week of practice to prepare and condition, with Austin Peay also having a road exhibition match at Western Illinois – in Macomb, IL – on Friday, August 11th.
Clarksville, TN – With the Fourth of July holiday in the rearview mirror and the dog days of summer just hitting their stride, it is less than a month before the return of Austin Peay State University student athletes and the beginning of the 2017-18 athletic school year.
Although the first day of classes on the main Austin Peay campus isn’t until August 28th – eight weeks away – over the next few weeks members of the football, volleyball, soccer and cross country teams will return to campus to hold their respective pre-season workouts.
Clarksville, TN – With another game-winning goal on Sunday, October 23rd, versus Jacksonville State, in a 1-0 victory at Morgan Brothers Field, Austin Peay State University’s Kirstin Robertson continues to build a résumé this season that could lead to her becoming the second Governor to earn the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors.
Tatiana Ariza is currently the only Austin Peay player to earn the league’s top honor, that coming back during the 2012 season, but Robertson, a 5-4, junior forward/midfielder from Ashland City, TN, may join her after coming off a sophomore season that saw her limited to just 13 matches after suffering several injuries in 2015.
Clarksville, TN – With graduations over and public school’s out for summer break that can only mean that Austin Peay sport camps are right around the corner.
From June to right before the beginning of the next school year several different sports will be holding youth camps over the break, so no matter what your age, skill level or sport desired there is a good chance you can find one that can help you become a better player.
