Tennessee State Representative - District 74Nashville, TN – Tennessee State Representative John Tidwell would like to announce a grant for The Johnsonville State Historic Park. The grant was the remaining part of an original $250,000 grant to the Raise the Gunboat Organization.

Representative Tidwell who is also a member of “The Raise the Gun Boats Board of Directors”. He revised the state grant, so that the Johnsonville State Historic Park can use the remaining money to retrieve, restore and display Civil War artifacts in appropriate cases.

Three Tennessee State Parks Among the Top 100 Family Friendly Fishing and Boating Destinations

 

Paris Landing, Pickwick Landing and Tims Ford Recognized by Take Me Fishing

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Paris Landing State Park, Pickwick Landing State Park and Tims Ford State Park were listed among the Top 100 Family Friendly Places to Boat and Fish in the U.S., according to Take Me Fishing, whose first Top 100 list was released this month. Park and recreation areas in 24 states were represented in the Top 100.

“We are thrilled to have three of our great Tennessee State Parks on the list of family-friendly boating and fishing destinations in the country,” Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill said.

Pickett State Park Dedicates New Civilian Conservation Corps Museum

 

November 4th Ceremony Commemorated the CCC’s Contributions to Tennessee; Memorial Statue Announced

Jamestown, TN – Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke was joined by Tennessee State Parks, elected officials and members of the community on Thursday, November 4th, at Pickett State Park for the official dedication of the park’s new Civilian Conservation Corps Museum.

The museum features interpretative exhibits and artifacts, depicting the Civilian Conservation Corps’ contributions to Tennessee’s parks and natural areas, while recognizing the CCC’s extensive efforts across the country.  An interactive touch-screen exhibit gives visitors an opportunity to hear directly from former CCC workers, sharing their stories about their time working to construct Pickett State Park.  Developed by Tennessee State Parks, the museum is in the same location of the former park office, constructed by the CCC in the 1930s.

Nashville, TN – Tennessee State Parks are now offering special winter rates for 360 villas and cabins, along with six state park inns from November 1st, 2010, through February 28th, 2011.  With a Tennessee State Park within an hour’s drive of just about anywhere in the state, families and groups seeking unique recreation opportunities and high-quality accommodations can find the perfect getaway – all at an exceptional value and a bit closer to home.

With a Tennessee State Parks special winter discount, park visitors can stay at one of Tennessee’s six state park inns for $49.95 a night (excluding tax). The inn discount may be used seven days a week and applies to both individuals and groups. At participating inns, guests may add the hot breakfast package for an additional $10.00. A 50 percent discount also is being offered for villas and cabins with a two-night minimum stay. The cabin discount is valid Sunday through Thursday only. «Read the rest of this article»

Tennessee State ParksNashville – The Department of Environment and Conservation invites the public to take part in volunteer activities across Tennessee in celebration of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest one-day, volunteer stewardship event. Organizers seek to honor the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in protecting America’s public lands. Last year, more than 110,000 volunteers across the country built trails, planted trees and removed litter to improve America’s shared lands for all who visit them.

“Tennessee State Parks and the department’s Resource Management Division have a tradition of organizing a statewide volunteer effort in observance of National Public Lands Day,” said Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke. “A number of state parks and natural areas will host volunteers throughout Tennessee, joining thousands across the country working to safeguard these lands not only for themselves, but for future generations.” «Read the rest of this article»
