Pickett State Park Dedicates New Civilian Conservation Corps MuseumNovember 4th Ceremony Commemorated the CCC’s Contributions to Tennessee; Memorial Statue Announced
The museum features interpretative exhibits and artifacts, depicting the Civilian Conservation Corps’ contributions to Tennessee’s parks and natural areas, while recognizing the CCC’s extensive efforts across the country. An interactive touch-screen exhibit gives visitors an opportunity to hear directly from former CCC workers, sharing their stories about their time working to construct Pickett State Park. Tennessee State Parks Announce Special Winter RatesOffering quality accommodations at an exceptional value, all in your own backyard
With a Tennessee State Parks special winter discount, park visitors can stay at one of Tennessee’s six state park inns for $49.95 a night (excluding tax). The inn discount may be used seven days a week and applies to both individuals and groups. At participating inns, guests may add the hot breakfast package for an additional $10.00. A 50 percent discount also is being offered for villas and cabins with a two-night minimum stay. Environment and Conservation celebrates National Public Lands Day in TennesseeVolunteerism protects, preserves shared natural resources National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest one-day, volunteer stewardship event. Organizers seek to honor the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in protecting America’s public lands. Last year, more than 110,000 volunteers across the country built trails, planted trees and removed litter to improve America’s shared lands for all who visit them. “Tennessee State Parks and the department’s Resource Management Division have a tradition of organizing a statewide volunteer effort in observance of National Public Lands Day,” said Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke. “A number of state parks and natural areas will host volunteers throughout Tennessee, joining thousands across the country working to safeguard these lands not only for themselves, but for future generations.” «Read the rest of this article» Sections: News | No Comments
