Instant Peay Play: Weather has been APSU’s biggest opponent so far this Spring

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Spring sports for Austin Peay always have to deal with the possibility of bad weather, but so far this spring the weather had more than proven to be the Governors main opponent over the first month of play.

Baseball, softball, tennis, golf and track and field have all felt the grip of the late winter weather forcing game time changes, postponements, cancellations and even venue changes just to try to get their respective seasons in.

APSU Governors Baseball travel to Samford this weekend

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – An unexpected six-day layoff will come to an end when Austin Peay’s baseball team travels to Samford for a three-game nonconference set.

The Govs and Bulldogs will begin the weekend with a 3:00pm, Friday contest followed by an 11:00am, Saturday meeting and a 1:00pm, Sunday finale at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

APSU Governors Basketball game Sunday canceled

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will not play its Sunday contest in the Governors Challenge due to cold weather.

In addition, Niagara has elected not to play its Sunday contest. Instead, South Dakota State and Northern Illinois will play a noon contest to conclude the Governors Challenge event at Raymond C. Hand Park.

APSU Governors Baseball comes from six down to beat Niagara, 15-7

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team rallied from a six-run deficit to open the 2015 campaign with a 15-7 victory against Niagara, Friday, in the Governors Challenge at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (1-0) trailed 7-2 after the top of the sixth, but scored the game’s final 13 runs to secure the win.

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team opens its 2015 regular season Friday, February 13th versus Niagara looking to get off to a good start in what hopes to be a return to the top of the Ohio Valley Conference after suffering growing pains and injuries in 2014.

The Governors had 13 freshmen on last years’ squad, including eight that played significant time, which led to some growing pains for a team that had won the conference’s tournament the three previous seasons.

APSU Governors Baseball picked 4th in OVC, Alex Robles and Ridge Smith selected for preseason squad

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference’s preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors, Friday. Sophomores Ridge Smith and Alex Robles were named to the league’s 15-man preseason squad.

Austin Peay, which begins its 75th baseball campaign in one week, received 149 total points and was picked behind preseason favorite and defending regular-season champion Southeast Missouri which received 12 first-place votes and 187 total points.
