Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball set to begin SEC Tournament play, Thursday

 

UT Lady VolsGreenville, SC – #RV/NR Tennessee (20-9, 10-6 SEC) will open play on Thursday at approximately 7:30pm CT in the second round of the 2020 SEC Tournament at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

The Lady Vols, who tied for third in the league standings, were assigned the No. 6 seed based on the SEC’s tie-breaker policy. They will meet the winner of Wednesday afternoon’s first-round contest between No. 11 seed Missouri (8-21, 5-11 SEC) and No. 14 Ole Miss (7-22, 0-16 SEC). 

Tennessee defeated Missouri 77-66 in Knoxville to open the SEC slate back on January 2nd and owns road (84-28) and home (77-66) wins over Ole Miss this season.

UT Lady VolsNashville, TN – No. 12/12-ranked Tennessee (24-6, 11-5 SEC) faces No. 8/8 South Carolina (23-6, 12-4 SEC) in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament at 6:00pm CT (7:00pm ET) Friday at Bridgestone Arena.

This will mark UT’s 100th SEC Tournament game, standing at 78-21 entering the contest. Tennessee also will be seeking its 25th win of the campaign, which would mark the 35th such season victory total all-time and the fourth occasion under Holly Warlick.

The Lady Vols, who tied for fourth in the SEC regular-season standings (one game out of second place), slid to a No. 7 seed by virtue of a tiebreaker with No. 4 LSU, No. 5 A&M and No. 6 Missouri. South Carolina tied for second in the standings and earned the No. 2 seed by tiebreaker over UGA.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 12/12-ranked Tennessee (23-6, 11-5 SEC) opens play in the 2018 SEC Tournament at 6:00pm Central time (7:00pm ET) Thursday, facing off against Auburn (14-14, 5-11 SEC) at Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville.
 
The Lady Vols, who tied for fourth in the SEC regular-season standings, fell to a No. 7 seed by virtue of a tiebreaker with No. 4 LSU, No. 5 A&M and No. 6 Missouri. Auburn finished 10th in the standings and earned the No. 10 seed.
 
UT and AU are meeting for the second time this season. Tennessee defeated the Tigers, 70-59, in Knoxville on January 4th in the teams’ second league contest.

#11/13 Tennessee Lady Vols take down Troy, 131-69

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Senior Jaime Nared scored 27 points and freshman Evina Westbrook dished out a career-high 12 assists to lead No. 11/13 Tennessee to a 131-69 victory over Troy on Wednesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.
 
The Lady Vols (9-0) used a balanced offensive effort to put away the Trojans (4-2), as seven players reached double figures in points. Defensively, UT was able to hold the nation’s fifth highest scoring offense to 22 points below its average of 91.8 per game.
 
Tennessee was ready from the tip again, racing out to a 12-0 lead for the second consecutive game.

UT Lady VolsAuburn, AL Mercedes Russell scored a career-high 26 points and logged her 11th double-double of the season as Tennessee fell to Auburn, 79-61, on Thursday at Auburn Arena.

Tennessee (11-7, 2-3 SEC) committed 22 turnovers in the loss. Auburn (14-5, 4-1 SEC) scored 33 points off turnovers and surged in the second and third quarters to take control of the game.

Russell was 11-of-14 from the floor and collected 11 rebounds. Diamond DeShields was close to pulling off a triple-double, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Jaime Nared added 12 points.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball takes care of UNCW, 90-54

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Senior Jordan Reynolds recorded the third triple-double in program history to lead Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball team past the UNCW Seahawks 90-54 on Thursday night in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Reynolds finished with a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 11 points and 10 assists, becoming the third Lady Vol to accomplish a triple-double and the first since Shekinna Stricklen in a win over Oklahoma in 2010 (17 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists).

Tennessee (8-4) took the lead for good midway through the second quarter and outscored UNCW (5-6) 27-7 in the third quarter en route to the team’s fourth consecutive victory.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The #23/25 Tennessee (13-8, 4-4 SEC) and Arkansas (9-13, 4-5 SEC) meet for the second time this season, as the Lady Vols play host to the Razorbacks on Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. It will mark the 30th meeting between these schools.

UT and UA face off at 7:01pm ET/6:00pm in a match-up streamed via SECN+ and available through WatchESPN.

The contest will be the second between these programs in 2015-16, as the Razorbacks came from 11 down at the half to upset the #13/15 Lady Vols, 64-59, on January 14th in Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

Tennessee is coming off a 70-42 victory over Alabama on Sunday, in which the Lady Vols posted one of their finest complete-game performances of the season.

UT Lady Vols Basketball loses 79-66 at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

UT Lady VolsNotre Dame, IN – Despite a strong start, No. 13/15 Tennessee could not keep pace with hot-shooting No. 3/3 Notre Dame on Monday night, falling to the Fighting Irish, 79-66, at Purcell Pavilion.

Diamond DeShields paced the Lady Vols (11-6) with 17 points pm 7-of-13 shooting. Bashaara Graves posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jaime Nared added 11 points.

Tennessee committed 20 turnovers in the loss, marking the fourth-straight game the Lady Vols have had 19 or more miscues. UT outrebounded Notre Dame (17-1), 36-32. The Fighting Irish were 19-of-25 from the free-throw line and the Lady Vols were 8-of-14.
