This morning, she is on the ground in Middle Tennessee meeting with local officials and visiting with victims at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville. She visited Putnam County later that morning.
Nashville, TN – With tax filing season underway, the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Consumer Affairs is sharing a warning from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that cautions consumers about a new scam tactic involving erroneous tax refund deposits.
According to the IRS, the scam began with cyber criminals employing malware to mine client data from tax professionals’ computers.
Increase in Mobile Wallet Use Calls for Diligent Password Protection
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (TDCI) Consumer Affairs Division is reminding shoppers to make sure they protect their personal information when shopping from mobile devices this holiday season.
“Online shopping is becoming increasingly convenient due to a rise in mobile app use and the introduction of mobile wallets,” says says TDCI Deputy Commissioner Bill Giannini. “Unfortunately, with that ease comes a concern for the security of personal financial information.”
Tennessee Consumer Affairs says EMV Credit Card Technology arrives ahead of ‘Black Friday’ Holiday Shopping
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (TDCI) Consumer Affairs Division reminds Tennesseans to be aware of changes in credit card technology as this holiday season will be the first year retail stores will be required to become compliant with EMV credit card technology.
EMV (which stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa) is a new global standard for cards equipped with computer chips and the technology used to authenticate chip-card transactions.
Consumers Should Be Wary of Mystery Shopping Solicitations, Ads
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) Division of Consumer Affairs is warning Tennessee consumers to be wary of mystery shopper scams.
Sometimes retailers hire consumers to secretly evaluate their stores’ customer service – a practice commonly known as “mystery shopping,” or “secret shopping.” But unscrupulous mystery shopping scams can leave consumers holding the bag. In Tennessee, the Division of Consumer Affairs has fielded four consumer complaints since July 2014 related to mystery shopping scams.

Nashville, TN – Robocalls are computer-generated recorded messages used to communicate with the masses via telephone. A favorite of telemarketers, robocall technology is also used by thieves and scam artists to lure residents into traps.
