APSU Sports Information

APSU Men's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversityToledo, OH – Junior Justin Arens had a second round to remember at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Monday, hosted by Toledo at the Inverness Club, posting the best outing by an Austin Peay State University men’s golfer in this still-young season.

The first round was marred by inconsistency along the front nine, particularly on hole No. 5, which saw four of five Governors go over par; however, the collective +24 on the front nine was softened considerably by a +10 on the back, with Arens shooting even par.

Austin Peay to induct volleyball great Stephanie Champine into APSU Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – She was simply known as “Champ.” Never was a nickname more appropriate and never did one person do more to help transform a struggling program into a conference contender.

Jenny Hazelwood was seeking players who could impact her program for the 2008 season. After watching the Lady Govs struggle to an 8-25 record during her first APSU season, the Lady Govs coach knew she needed an influx of talent. Hazelwood had some pieces in place but knew the rebuilding process also needed a mix of young talent and a veteran who could provide an offensive jolt.

NASA takes a look at the positive and negatives of Algae

NASA

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationWashington, D.C. – Algae are complicated. The little plants can be both good and bad.

Single-celled algae called phytoplankton are a main source of food for fish and other aquatic life, and account for half of the photosynthetic activity on Earth—that’s good.

But certain varieties such as some cyanobacteria produce toxins that can harm humans, fish, and other animals. Under certain conditions, algae populations can grow explosively — a spectacle known as an algal bloom, which can cover hundreds of square kilometers. For example, in August 2014, a cyanobacteria outbreak in Lake Erie prompted Toledo, Ohio, officials to ban the use of drinking water supplied to more than 400,000 residents.
