UT Lady Vols Basketball loses at home to Virginia Tech, 57-43

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 8/8 Tennessee fell to Virginia Tech, 57-43, on Sunday afternoon in the final contest of an eight-game homestand to open the season.

The Hokies (7-1) held the Lady Vols to a season-low 43 points on just 31 percent shooting. The big difference came from behind the arc as Virginia Tech finished 9-19 from 3-point range while UT was held to a season-worst 1-19 from long range.

Virginia Tech guard Vanessa Panousis led all scorers with 21 points including 5-8 shooting from beyond the arc.

#8 Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball roll past East Tennessee State 85-49

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Diamond DeShields was spectacular on Wednesday night with 31 points and seven steals to lead No. 8/8 Tennessee to an 85-49 victory over East Tennessee State at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee (6-1) thrived thanks to a big night from a trio of players that the Lady Vols did not have last season. DeShields was 12-of-20 from the floor and also tallied eight rebounds and five assists. She was not the only Lady Vol who had a career night. Te’a Cooper shined in the second half to finish with a career-high 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Mercedes Russell posted a double-double, her third on the season, with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

UT Vols come up short against George Washington, 73-70

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsBrooklyn, NY – Down by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Vols had two chances to tie the game in the final 10 seconds, but were unable to connect in a tough 73-70 loss to George Washington at the Barclays Center Classic. Kevin Punter had a game-high 24 points while Devon Baulkman added 16 and Robert Hubbs III had 13 points.

The Colonials (6-0) advanced to the championship game, while the Vols (4-2) will turnaround and play in less than 13 hours against Nebraska at 12 Noon on Saturday.

Down 49-34 less than five minutes into the second half, Tennessee cut their deficit one point on a Baulkman 3-pointer with 1:55 left in regulation at 69-68.
