Richards Named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityXiamar RichardsClarksville, TN – Xiamar Richards, a sophomore on the Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Clarksville native took home her season’s second victory at the Thorobred Classic, Friday, finishing in 18:23.45. In a field that saw the Lady Govs sweep the top-five spots for its first victory this season, Richards finished 18.73 seconds faster than the next Lady Gov Janelle Avery (18:42.18).

This season Richards has recorded three top-10 performances including two victories, averaging a 12th-place finish.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

Junior Geofrey Kosgei, of the men’s cross country team, won his first race this season at the Thorobred Stampede, finishing in 29:41.46. His victory also helped lead the way to the season’s first team victory for the Governors.

Senior Paige Economos, of the volleyball team, was named Ohio Valley Conference “Co-Defensive Player of the Week.” Economos finished the week with 74 digs, five service aces and was charged with just two reception errors in 74 chances.

Sophomore Christian Kepley, of the men’s cross country team, finished second at the Thorobred Stampede, Friday, finishing in 30:58.71. The second-place finish is Kepleys best finish this season.

Senior Janelle Avery, of the women’s cross country team, finished second at the Thorobred Stampede, Friday, finishing in 18:42.18. It was a season’s best finish for Avery.
