APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay men’s tennis team opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 6-1 win against Murray State, Friday afternoon.
Morning storms cleared out in time for the Govs and Racers to play outdoors, a fitting place to start OVC action for both squads. Austin Peay improved to 5-5 overall with a 1-0 mark in league play, while Murray State fell to 1-5 overall with an 0-1 OVC record.
Austin Peay swept the doubles point, winning all three matches in convincing fashion. Sean Bailey and Dimitar Ristovski won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, Jasmin Ademovic and John Storie ran away with an 8-1 match at No. 2 doubles, while Aleksas Tverijonas and Iago Seffrin won 8-3 at No. 3.
In singles play, the Govs won the top three matches in straight sets, led by Bailey at No. 1. Ademovic, meanwhile, at No. 2 singles, picked up his first win in three matches. Austin Peay’s only loss came at No. 5 singles.
“We played well at the top of the lineup,” Tabet said. “That said, we have to be better at the bottom. The bottom of the lineup is where you win championships.”
OVC action continues for Austin Peay at 2:00pm, Saturday, when the Govs and Lady Govs play host to SIU Edwardsville.
