Monkey Thief Still At Large

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – An anonymous tip pointed Police in Petersburg Tennessee to a possible location of the Marmoset monkey stolen out of Clarksville.

On October 15th, 2012, around 11:30pm, Clarksville Detective Kagan Dindar received a call from a Petersburg Police officer who said they had received a tip about a possible location of “Gizzy”.

Petersburg Police Department officers contacted the residents and found they had a monkey in their possession.  After the officers received a photo of the monkey, they were almost certain, it was the stolen monkey out of Clarksville.

The residents were very cooperative and said they purchased the monkey from a Nashville man for $500.00. The monkey was voluntarily turned over to Petersburg Police until the owner, Douglas Jackson, could positively ID the monkey as “Gizzy”.

Jackson arrived in Petersburg around 11:00am today and positively identified the monkey. According to Jackson, the monkey’s hair had been shaved in what appeared to be an attempt to alter the monkey’s appearance. He also said “Gizzy” appeared to have lost quite a bit of weight.

Clarksville Police would like to give kudos to the media for their dissemination of information. The wide-spread coverage by the media may have well been responsible for the tip received in the town of Petersburg which is over 100 miles from Clarksville. As a result of their efforts, “Gizzy”, will be sleeping in his own bed tonight.

The investigation is ongoing and the lead detective is Kagan Dindar, 931.648.0656, ext 5434.
