Fort Campbell’s Outdoor Recreation Adventures to have Hiking, Climbing, Canoeing and More in August

Fort Campbell's Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Join Outdoor Recreation Adventure Programs for some great activities this month! They’ll start the month off with Climbing 101 on August 1st from 5:00pm to 7:30pm.

If you are interested in learning how to rock climb then join for an introduction to the exciting sport of climbing.  This clinic will cover equipment, belay instruction, safety precautions, as well as technique. The cost is $15.00 and you must be at least 12 years old to participate.  Outdoor Rec will provide all equipment needed. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on July 30th.

Take a Rock Island State Park Day Trip with them on August 3rd from 8:00am to 6:00pm. There is no better way to spend the day then taking a hike through the Great Falls Gorge, swimming in the blue hole or just enjoying the spectacular scenery that the Caney Fork River has to offer. Please bring food and water and don’t forget your camera. The cost is $19.00 which includes your transportation and you must preregister by 4:00pm on August 1st.

Beat the heat with a Duck River Family Canoe Trip on August 10th from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Ages 6 and up may participate.  The Duck River is the largest self contained river in the state of Tennessee. The breathtaking scenery and Family friendly waters make this a perfect location for a Family float trip. The cost is $25.00 and covers transportation and equipment. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on August 8th.

Did you know that Clarksville has some of the best climbing in middle Tennessee?  Join Outdoor Rec as they venture to King’s Bluff, a scenic 2 mile crag located just 15 minutes from post. This climbing adventure is on August 10th from 9:00am to 3:00pm and is open to ages 12 and up. All experience levels are welcome. The cost is $35.00 and this includes transportation and equipment. Please bring appropriate clothing, water, snacks and a packed lunch. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on August 8th.

Join Outdoor Recreation for a Family Floats canoe trip on August 14th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Located in downtown Clarksville, the Cumberland River is a great location to spend the afternoon canoeing. Ages 6 and over may participate. The cost is $15.00 and includes transportation and equipment. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on August 12th.

Located in Ashland City, Sycamore Creek is a tributary of the Cumberland River and is a great location to spend the afternoon paddle boarding. Let Outdoor Rec take you on this Stand Up Paddle Boarding trip on August 17th from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Ages 10 and up may participate. You will paddle a 5 mile stretch of river. The cost is $25.00 and includes transportation and equipment. Please bring food, water and sun block. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on August 15th.

Ages 8 and over are invited to take a Garden of the Gods Day Hike on August 18th from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Located in Southern Illinois’ Shawnee National Forest, Garden of the Gods Recreation Area is a spectacular hiking destination.  You will be hiking the Indian Point Trail and the Observation Trail. Don’t forget your hiking boots and camera!  The cost is $25.00 and this includes transportation. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on August 16th.

Here’s another chance to learn the exciting sport of climbing!  Climbing 101 will be held again on August 22nd from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. Sky Diving! This is your chance to experience a real adventure! Feel the rush at 120mph as you free fall from 10,000 feet. No experience needed. Let trained sky diving professionals show you the experience of a lifetime. Due to these being tandem jumps, participants’ weight must not exceed 250lbs. This exciting trip will be held on August 24th from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Return time may be extended due to weather and delayed jumping. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate and the cost is $160.00. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on August 14th.
