Austin Peay State University Softball plays UT Martin Skyhawks at home to close regular season

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team closes out its 2014 regular season this weekend by hosting the University of Tennessee Martin for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Cheryl Holt Field.

The Lady Govs (19-30, 7-16 OVC) open the weekend versus the Skyhawks with a Saturday doubleheader, starting at noon and conclude with a single game on Sunday, also schedule to start at noon.

Austin Peay enters the weekend still mathematically alive for the eighth and final spot in the upcoming OVC tournament, but will need to defeat Tennessee Martin (25-24-1, 12-9 OVC) all three games of their series, while also needing Morehead State to drop all three of its games this weekend at Tennessee Tech.

As they enter their final regular-season weekend, senior Lauren de Castro leads the Lady Govs offensive attack with a .361 batting average – which includes nine doubles, one triple and six home runs. She’s also driven in 27 runs, while scoring 25 runs.

The Skyhawks have a trio of hitters coming into the matchup hitting over .300 on the season, led by Carly Gonzales’ .313 batting average – which includes three doubles and a home run.

In the circle, de Castro tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 12-14 win-loss mark and an ERA of 3.08. She had also struck out 95 batters in 154.2 innings of work so far this season.

Elizabeth Wiegand leads the UTM staff with a 11-6 record and a 2.76 ERA. She has 74 strikeouts in 137 innings worked.

Sunday will also see Austin Peay celebrating Senior Day, prior to the game’s first pitch, as its honors its five 2014 seniors Kayla Davidson, Kristin Whitmire, Taylor Mills, Amanda De Vries and de Castro, who will be playing their final regular season game in the APSU red and white.
