Clarksville, TN – Sophomore Logan Carger finished with a career-high 15 kills, including the match-winner as Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team defeated Morehead State in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 25-13), Saturday in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Dunn Center.

The Govs battled through 12 ties and three lead changes in the opening frame, the last tie coming at 19-19.
Austin Peay scored three straight points to break that tie, junior Ashley Slay supplying a service ace, and maintained that lead to the set’s end.
The second set started with Morehead State (11-17, 7-7 OVC) scoring the first four points while racing out to a 5-1 lead. The Govs responded with their own 5-1 run to tie the set, 6-6, and gained a brief 8-7 lead courtesy a Carger kill.
APSU would get a two-point lead midway through the set and nursed that slim lead all the way to 22-20 in the frame. But a service error and back-to-back Eagles kills turned the tide as they rallied late to tie the set.
After the break, Austin Peay found a different gear defensively. After allowing 28 kills in the first two sets, they would hold Morehead State to 17 kills and a .029 attack percentage in the final two sets.
The Govs opened the third set with a 5-1 run as senior Sammie Ebright chipped in a pair of kills. Ebright then would lead a 4-0 run from the service line as the lead hit seven points, 11-4. The Govs lead would be reduced to four points late in the set before Slay ended the frame with back-to-back kills.
Ebright’s time at the service line provided the breakout moment in the fourth set, the Govs scoring four straight points on her serve to turn a 4-5 deficit into an 8-5 lead.
Austin Peay would score five blocks in the set to stymie the Eagles offense, which had just seven kills and posted a negative-.121 attack percentage in the frame, as the Govs rolled to the match-clinching set win.
Carger’s 15-kill outing saw her start post 13 straight kills without an attack error to begin the outing. She finished with just one attack error for a .560 attack percentage. Slay chipped in 12 kills while junior Kaitlyn Teeter added a 10-kill outing. The trio led an offensive effort that finished with 53 kills and a .232 attack percentage.
Meredith Jewell led Morehead State with 16 kills, but was limited to a .113 attack percentage. Karlee Reynolds added 10 kills and a .300 attack percentage. The Eagles ended the match with 45 kills and a .118 attack percentage.
