The two matches will have a huge impact on Austin Peay’s (7-4-1, 2-2-1 OVC) season from here on out.

The Govs currently sit in fifth place in the OVC, tied with Belmont on seven conference points.

While the Govs are a single point behind fourth-place Eastern Illinois and only three behind UT Martin, it is much closer in the middle of the OVC. Just five total points separate eight teams from fourth to last place.

The Govs will do themselves a world of good if they are able to defeat Eastern Kentucky on Friday. The Colonels currently have five points, meaning the winner of the game will be ahead of the loser.

Winning both matches on the weekend would leave the Govs with 13 total points, which would all but lock in a spot in the OVC Tournament. Every team who has garnered at least 13 points in the conference since 2012 has finished in the top eight.

The Govs have a reason to feel confident as they boast the reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Week in Caroline Wistrom. Wistrom, a defender for basically her entire her career with only one goal to her name, started at forward for the Govs in their lone outing against Jacksonville State last Friday, scoring twice and also recording an assist.

Claire Larose also scored twice in the match and is second in the conference with seven goals.

Opponent Spotlight

Eastern Kentucky (5-5-2, 1-1-2 OVC) has had up-and-down stretches to its season so far. The Colonels’ marquee win came against Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky. They lost their opener in the OVC, but are unbeaten since, with a win and two draws. The Colonels defeated Morehead State in a wild 4-3 double overtime game on Tuesday in their most recent match.

The Colonels are led by Erin Torrence, who has an impressive six goals and four assists this season. Sarah Owusu, who scored the winner for the Colonels in the game against Morehead, also has four goals and two assists to her name. The Govs are a modest 5-5-3 against EKU all-time and tied the defending OVC runner-ups last season 1-1.

Morehead State (2-11, 1-4 OVC) currently sits in last position in the OVC. Despite losing that 4-3 OT thriller against Eastern Kentucky, the Eagles are the only OVC team to defeat league-leading SIUE this season. Austin Peay will focus on stopping Dani Wilson, who leads the Eagles with five goals and is the only player on the team to have scored more than once this season.

The Govs are only 3-11-2 all-time against the Eagles, but have won the past two meetings. In last year’s win, McKenzie Dixon scored one of the goals off an assist from Katie Costantino.

Both matches will be streamed live on the OVC Digital Network. In addition, live stats will be available for each match.
