Clarksville, TN – Since I arrived in Clarksville, phrases like “I love The Peay,” “Austin Peay State University is my school,” or “APSU has done so much for my family” have flowed out of people’s mouths like water down the Cumberland River.
If this is the case and the Govs are Clarksville’s Hometown Team, it is time to invest in our success by showing up to support our teams, student-athletes, coaches, and this school.
Why not? Yes, there may have been a few changes since some of you last visited an athletic event on campus. Legendary names like Roberts, Bible, and Dupes are no longer on the field, but now a new breed of Governors like DiLiello, Chapman, Goodman, and an energetic coach named Walden defend the Fort.
It’s time to come visit us again. It’s time to see what’s new around the program. It’s new; it’s different, and different can be scary. But none of us stopped watching TV or buying eggs just because the televisions became smart and the cost of eggs increased.
Don’t come out of obligation. Come because we’re putting a quality product on the field and a quality show off of it. What can you find if you make your way to campus?
- A football team that won the third championship in program history a year ago and is in the midst of an exciting five-game winning streak!
- A game day atmosphere that has something for everyone. Kid zone, food trucks, live music, tailgating, admission tours, and much more!
- Govs Madness, a celebration of APSU Basketball, tips off on October 26th in the new F&M Bank Arena! The alumni game will be special and kick off what’s sure to be an incredible first season in our new home, mere steps from campus.
- A soccer program is participating in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament for the first time in school history.
- Student-athletes are contributing hundreds of community service hours to support our Clarksville community this semester.
- Student-athletes excelling off the field, with better than a 3.4 GPA in the classroom.
Eliminate excuses about why it’s not possible to come to campus for an event. Instead of “I can’t,” let’s try “I AM supporting APSU Athletics.” Why? Because they’ve built a program there that competes for championships, is active in its community, and is excellent in the classroom, because I am an alum or simply because they are Clarksville’s Hometown Team, and I believe in what they’re doing.
I want to see you on campus soon. I want to shake your hand, thank you for your support, and do everything I can to be sure you have the first-class experience we pride ourselves on giving Austin Peay State University fans.
