Brent Morel Hits First Homer With Sounds

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NB – The Nashville Sounds were unable to come from behind on Sunday night at Omaha, falling 11-5 at Werner Park.

A highly anticipated pitching matchup between red-hot Sounds starter Zach Neal and impressive Kansas City Royals prospect Miguel Almonte quickly turned into a slugfest, as the teams combined to smack three homers in the first inning.

Sounds third baseman Brent Morel was the first player to go deep, driving in Craig Gentry and Joey Wendle with a two-out, three-run blast. Casey Kotchman then raised the ante, taking Neal deep for a grand slam. Omaha would bat around in the frame, adding a two-run homer by Francisco Pena to go up 6-3.

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NE – The Sounds started the month of August on a high note, controlling Saturday night’s series opener from the beginning and dominating the Omaha Storm Chasers with a 9-4 win at Werner Park.

Nashville started the hit party with three runs out of the gate. Craig Gentry and Joey Wendle hit back-to-back singles and Ryan Roberts made the Storm Chasers pay. The left fielder watched one strike breeze by him before launching his fifth home run of the season. Roberts finished with a pair of hits and two runs, reaching base three different times.

The Sounds got on the board first in the two games to begin the series and continued the trend with a tally in the opening frame. The strike came off the bat of Jason Pridie, whose solo home run gave Nashville the 1-0 lead. The outfielder has homered in all three games this series against his former team.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN –  For the second straight night, Niuman Romero led the Nashville Sounds to a strange 4-3 walk-off victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers at First Tennessee Park.

The night prior, Romero hit a blooper to center that Rey Fuentes booted allowing Anthony Aliotti to score from first to win the game. This time around, Romero was hit by a Louis Coleman pitch with the bases loaded and Jason Pridie scored to send the Nashville faithful home happy with an extra inning win.

Nashville Sounds Belt Three Homers, Led By Jason Pridie’s Team-Leading 12th

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – Despite belting three home runs, the Nashville Sounds came up on the short end of a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Memphis Redbirds on Saturday evening at AutoZone Park.

With its win, Memphis evened the series at two games apiece and knotted the season series between the clubs at 5-5 as the cross-state rivals duke it out for possession of the Tennessee Lottery I-40 Cup.

The defeat was Nashville’s 16th one-run loss of the year, 2nd-most in the Pacific Coast League.

Jason Pridie Hits Two Home Runs, Drives In Six During Doubleheader

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Jason Pridie had a huge night, while Barry Zito and Zach Neal both threw seven-inning complete games to help Nashville sweep Memphis in a doubleheader at AutoZone Park on Thursday night. The Sounds took the first game, 3-2, before coming out on top in the nightcap, 7-4.

Zito started on a roll and made it all the way to the finish line in the first game. The lefty breezed through the first three before Memphis tacked on a run in the fourth. He pitched to contact, failing to record a strikeout in a start for the first time this season. Zito issued three free passes, but the ‘Birds had just four hits off him.

Nashville Sounds Bullpen Allows One Run Over 6 2/3 Innings

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds celebrated Father’s Day at First Tennessee Park on Sunday, but were on the wrong end of a 7-1 tilt and lost the series finale against the Omaha Storm Chasers.

The loss marked the third time that Nashville has been swept in a four-game set this season. The Sounds were outscored 17-7 in the series and dropped to 11 games below .500 for the second time this season.

Craig Gentry opened the Father’s Day contest by banging his second long ball in the last five games. The game-opening homer, which pushed the outfielder’s hitting streak to 11 games, was the first by a Sounds player since Scooter Gennett hit one against the Round Rock Express on July 3rd, 2013. Nashville has outscored their opponent 34-15 in the first inning this season.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds and Storm Chasers were scoreless through nine innings in Friday night’s pitchers’ duel at First Tennessee Park, but Omaha scored in the tenth and secured a 1-0 win.

The neck of the guitar-shaped scoreboard at First Tennessee Park displayed zeros on both sides for nine innings. Finally in the tenth, Omaha’s designated hitter Casey Kotchman lifted a sacrifice fly to left that scored Paulo Orlando for the game’s only tally. It was the second straight one-run contest that went the Storm Chasers’ direction to open the series.

Brad Mills Leaves Game With Apparent Leg Injury

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – A big third inning led the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a sweep of the Nashville Sounds as they cruised to a 4-2 victory at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Sunday night.

The Sounds got on the board first, hanging two runs in the top of the third courtesy of RBI singles via Anthony Aliotti and Jason Pridie after Alden Carrithers led the inning off with a double down the right field line.

Momentum shifted quickly however. Hector Olivera led off the bottom half of the inning with a single and Buck Britton flied out.
