Michael Hamlet, director of human resources, has been appointed by the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE) board of directors to the 2013 Board of Examiners. Several APSU faculty, staff announce recent activities

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Edward Wayne Chester, professor emeritus in the department of biology and the Center of Excellence for Field Biology, was presented the Conservation Award for 2011 at the annual meeting of the Tennessee Native Plant Society in September.

The award is given yearly to a person who has long advocated and supported the conservation and stewardship of Tennessee’s natural resources, especially native plants. Chester taught various biology and botany classes, conducted research and published numerous papers on the plant life of Tennessee and the southeast for more than 40 years. He currently teaches adjunct classes in biology and continues his research and writing. «Read the rest of this article»

Several APSU faculty, staff noted for recent activities

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University share their recent professional and scholarly activities.

Chris Burawa, director of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, had an article, titled “An Interview with Afaa Michael Weaver,” published in the Summer 2011 edition of Contemporary Literature. The article also was written by Cynthia Hogue and Stacey Waite. Burawa also will have a poem, “Dripping Surgery,” to appear in the October 2011 edition of Hayden’s Ferry Review. «Read the rest of this article»

APSU faculty, staff bring pride to University through scholarly pursuits

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Three faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently have brought recognition to the University through their professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Victoria McCarthy, assistant professor in the department of professional studies, and Dr. Becky J. Starnes, associate professor in the department of the public management and criminal justice, spoke at the Tennessee County Professional Development Conference held November 3rd. McCarthy’s presentation was titled “Boomers, Busters and Bridgers, ‘Oh My!’  The Land of Oz and Generational Diversity in the Workplace.” Starnes’ presentation was titled “Increasing County Volunteer Satisfaction to Increase Retention.”  

Chris Burawa, director of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, had his translation from the Icelandic of the short story, “Holes in People,” by Kristín Eiríksdóttir, accepted for inclusion in the Best European Fiction 2011 (Dalkey Archive Press), edited by Aleksandar Hemon.
