Last Meeting between Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In Mike Mularkey’s Nissan Stadium debut as interim head coach, the Tennessee Titans failed to knock off the unbeaten Carolina Panthers as they fell to Carolina 27-10.

Tennessee fell behind 7-0 midway through the first stanza but came back to tie it on a 25-yard touchdown run by running back Dexter McCluster before the end of the quarter. After a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter by kicker Ryan Succop, the Titans trailed 14-10 at the half, but Carolina went on to score 13 unanswered second half points to put the game away.

Game History between Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans have played fewer games against the Carolina Panthers than any other NFL team. There have been just five regular season matchups and three preseason meetings (2010, 2016 and 2017) since the Panthers began play as an expansion team in 1995.

The Titans won three consecutive regular season games in the series after losing the initial meeting, but the Panthers bounced back with a 27-10 win at Nissan Stadium on November 15th, 2015.

The trip marks only the third time the Titans have played a regular season game in Charlotte. They won both of the previous contests, most recently in 2011.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who finished his fourth NFL season, missed three total starts in 2018 due to injuries. Nevertheless, he posted his third consecutive winning record as a starter (7-6) and set the franchise single-season record with a 68.9 completion percentage.

Mariota’s 27 wins as a starting quarterback in his first four years with the club rank second in franchise annals behind only George Blanda’s 34 victories. Mariota is the fifth player in NFL history to record 12,000 passing yards (12,004) and 1,200 rushing yards (1,270) in his first four NFL seasons, joining Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Jeff Garcia and Blake Bortles.

Although it features two AFC teams, the Titans-Bengals game will be televised regionally on FOX, including Nashville affiliate WZTV FOX 17. Play-by-play announcer Dick Stockton and analyst Mark Schlereth will call the action, and Shannon Spake will report from the sidelines.

Tennessee Titans drop home preseason game to Carolina Panthers

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans fell Saturday afternoon to the Carolina Panthers 26-16 at Nissan Stadium. There was a 30 minute delay in the game due to lightning in the third quarter.

Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota continued his excellent preseason play going 9 of 10 for 104 yards with one touchdown and an interception. On his final drive of the game, Mariota connected with Harry Douglas for a 23 yard touchdown pass.

The Titans won three consecutive regular season games in the series after losing the initial meeting, but the Panthers bounced back with a 27-10 win at Nissan Stadium in 2015.

In the only preseason game between the teams, the Panthers defeated the Titans 15-7 at Bank of America Stadium on August 28th, 2010.

Commenting on the rare preseason afternoon start time, Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said,“(Panthers head coach) Ron (Rivera) and I spoke at the owners’ meetings. Originally we both sent in requests to play the third preseason game. We thought it would be great to get an afternoon game when the starters are playing a good portion of that (third game) to put them in the heat.”

Denver BroncosDenver, CO – On Monday, March 7th, 2016, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning announces his retirement during a press conference at the UCHealth Training Center. Manning talked about his retirement during the press conference.

“In my very first NFL game, I completed my first pass to Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk. I threw a touchdown in that same game to Marvin Harrison, who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this August. The quarterback for our opponent, the Miami Dolphins, was, after my dad, my favorite player – Hall of Famer Dan Marino – who on the first third down of the game completed a 25-yard skinny post and it was the damndest throw I’d ever seen. Later, I completed a pass to tight end Marcus Pollard down the middle and somebody hit me really hard and after I got up I told myself, ‘I know I can play in this league.’
