Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball gets 67-63 win over Vanderbilt

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team held off in-state rival Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon, winning in Thompson-Boling Arena, 67-63.
 
Junior forward Rennia Davis led Tennessee (18-9, 8-6 SEC), posting a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Jordan Horston was close behind with 16 points, while sophomore forward Rae Burrell finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
 
Chelsie Hall and Mariella Fasoula were the high scorers for Vanderbilt (13-14, 3-11 SEC) with 20 and 18, respectively.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (17-9, 7-6 SEC), which is receiving votes in this week’s AP and USA TODAY Coaches Polls, returns home to host in-state foe Vanderbilt (13-13, 3-10 SEC) on Sunday in a 11:02pm CT matinee at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Lady Vols and Commodores met in Nashville on January 30th, with UT coming away with a 78-69 victory in Memorial Gymnasium. This will mark the 84th contest in a rivalry that began in 1976. UT leads the series, 73-10, and has won 11 of the past 12, with Vandy picking up its first-ever victory in Knoxville last season on February 28th, 76-69.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball defeats Vanderbilt on the road, 78-69

 

UT Lady VolsNashville, TN – Junior forward Rennia Davis poured in 22 points to lead the No. 22/22 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team to a 78-69 victory over in-state rival Vanderbilt at Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday night.
 
Davis scored 16 of her points in the second half to hit double figures in points for the 19th straight game and for the 33rd time in her past 34 games. Jazmine Massengill was Tennessee’s (17-4, 7-1 SEC) second-highest scorer with 14 points, and Jordan Horston and Rae Burrell each turned in 11.
 
Vanderbilt (12-9, 2-6) was led by Koi Love who had 16 points. Kiara Pearl added 13.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 22/22 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (16-4, 6-1 SEC) hits the road for the first of three away games in its next four outings, playing Vanderbilt (12-8, 2-5 SEC) at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville on Thursday at 8:05pm CT (9:05pm ET).

This will mark the 83rd contest in a rivalry that began in 1976. UT leads the series, 72-10, and has won 10 of the past 11, with Vandy picking up its first-ever victory in Knoxville last season. The UT women are 247-61-1 all-time vs. four-year college teams from the Volunteer State, defeating East Tennessee State (72-68) and Tennessee State (73-43) earlier this season.

Tip-off is slated for 2:02pm CT (3:02pm ET) at The Pavilion at Ole Miss in a contest that is being streamed on SECN+.
 
After winning five of six, UT has hit a bump in the road and has dropped three straight, including back-to-back home games vs. #13/13 South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The Commodores spoiled the Lady Vols’ Senior Night on Thursday, overcoming a 10-point deficit to get their first-ever win in Knoxville, 76-69.

Tennessee Lady Vols fall at home to Vanderbilt, 76-69

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Redshirt senior Cheridene Green posted a career-high 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a Vanderbilt team that shot 53.8 percent from the floor, handing the Tennessee Lady Vols a 76-69 loss at home on Thursday night. 

Green’s previous best scoring performance also came against Vanderbilt, on January 17th, 2018, when she tallied 17 points.

In addition to Green, sophomore Rennia Davis and freshman Mimi Collins were also in double figures for Tennessee (17-11, 6-9 SEC) with 14 each. Collins’ total was a career high, while Davis posted her 21st double-figure scoring effort of the season.

Tennessee Lady Vols take care of Vanderbilt, 82-65

UT Lady VolsNashville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols went 17-of-20 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to secure their third straight victory, defeating rival Vanderbilt on Sunday, 82-65, in Memorial Gymnasium.

Sophomore Evina Westbrook led UT (15-7, 4-5 SEC) in scoring with 18 points, followed closely by sophomore Rennia Davis and senior Meme Jackson who had 17 apiece. Davis posted 12 rebounds to record her second straight and sixth overall double-double of the season. Freshman Meme Collins also found her way into double digits for Tennessee with 10 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – After playing four in a row at home, the Tennessee Lady Vols (14-7, 3-5 SEC) hits the road for two straight games, starting with a 2:00pm CT (3:00pm ET) matinee vs. Vanderbilt (6-15, 1-7 SEC) in Nashville on Sunday. ESPN2 will carry the 81st meeting between the Lady Vols and Commodores, as they face off on Super Bowl Sunday at historic Memorial Gymnasium.

UT enters the in-state rivalry game on much better footing, having won back-to-back games after a much-publicized six-game losing streak. The Lady Vols took care of LSU last Sunday, 74-65, and handled Florida on Thursday night, 67-50, with both games taking place in Knoxville.
