Clarksville High School’s Alyvia Crawley Wins Tennessee 2018 Poetry Out Loud Contest

 
Tennessee Arts CommissionNashville, Tn —The 2018 Tennessee Poetry Out Loud (POL) champion is Alyvia Crawley a junior at Clarksville High School in Clarksville, TN. The competition was held on Saturday, March 10, in the Ford Theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
 
“I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I didn’t know what the judges were looking for, but I really understood all of my poems and I wanted to portray what the authors were saying,” said Crawley. “One of the best skills I learned was to comprehend what someone else is saying and then communicate that.”

Austin Peay State University announces Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Two of the greatest Governors athletes in their respective sports and the department’s longtime sports information director have been selected to Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

In addition, a former superb football/basketball player who paid the ultimate price in defense of his country, was selected to the Hall of Fame as part of it Legends category.

Former APSU Football Coach Boots Donnelly inducted into National Football Foundation Hall of Fame

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsAtlanta, GA – James “Boots” Donnelly, the only coach to lead Austin Peay State University football to an Ohio Valley Conference championship was inducted into the 2013 National Football Foundation (NFF) Division College Hall of Fame, Wednesday night.

The enshrinement ceremony was held at Omni Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta. It was the first time the event was held in Atlanta, the new home of the Hall of Fame.

University of Tennessee Basketball’s Jarnell Stokes makes USA Team Roster

 

Tennessee VolsColorado Springs, CO — Following six highly-competitive training camp workouts at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO., USA Basketball announced its final 12-man roster on June 18th for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic. Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes made the final cut and will represent the United States in international play for the second consecutive summer.

Tennessee is one of only two Southeastern Conference programs represented on the U.S. team.

Two Austin Peay State University Alumni to be inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Hall of Fame

Former Austin Peay State University tennis coach to be inducted into Hall of Fame

 

Intercollegiate Tennis AssociationSkillman, New Jersey – Former Austin Peay State University tennis head coach Dennis Emery was one of seven individuals elected to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) 2013 Hall of Fame class, the governing body announced last week.

Emery, the long-time coach for the Kentucky men’s program, was Austin Peay’s head coach from 1977 through 1982.

Chantelle Grey named APSU Athlete of the Week

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Senior Chantelle Grey, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Grey was the dominant athlete for the Lady Govs at last weekend’s Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois. Her 2:12.61 mark in the 800m run won the event by nearly three seconds over her next closest competition. In victory, she became the first Lady Gov to win gold in the indoor 800m since Sheena Gooding won four years in a row (1999-2002) during her Hall of Fame career.

Austin Peay State University’s Chantelle Grey wins 800m at OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships

 

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsCharleston, IL- Senior Chantelle Grey won the 800m run for Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team on the final day of the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Lantz Arena, lifting the Lady Govs after a disappointing first-day showing.

The Lady Govs 44 team points placed them eighth overall. Southeast Missouri’s women scored 101 points to win the women’s indoor title over runner-up Tennessee State (95 points) and host Eastern Illinois (88 points).
