Tennessee Vols Football falls at home to #3 Georgia, 42-14

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Vols football team took a 14-10 second-quarter lead over No. 3 Georgia behind gritty play from true freshman quarterback Brian Maurer before falling, 43-14, in front of a crowd of 92,709 Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.
 
In his first career start for the Vols (1-4/0-2 SEC), Maurer completed 14 of 28 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns. The Ocala, FL, native connected on 10 of 21 attempts in the first half for 205 yards and two TDs, propelling UT to a four-point lead with 14:57 to go in the second stanza.

Tennessee Vols Football loses at No. 2/3 Georgia Bulldogs, 38-12

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsAthens, GA – Tennessee Vols Football scored two second-half touchdowns to pull within 12 points, but a late push by No. 2/3 Georgia proved to be too much for the Volunteers in a 38-12 defeat at Sanford Stadium.

“We have fight in us, and we’re not going to quit,” Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt said. “It kind of gets me excited. These guys on this team have had a lot of negatives go against them for awhile, and I’m proud of them for the way they fought.

“And it isn’t easy. Our guys kept fighting, which means we’re headed in the right direction and that excites me.”

Tennessee Vols held scoreless by #7/8 Georgia Bulldogs

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee saw a two-game winning streak in the series end Saturday, as #7/8 Georgia defeated the Vols, 41-0, in front of a sellout crowd of 102,455 at Neyland Stadium.

Junior running back John Kelly led Tennessee (3-2, 0-2 SEC) in rushing (44 yards) and receiving (47 yards). Georgia moved to 5-0 and 2-0 in league play.

UGA freshman quarterback Jake Fromm ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another to lead the way for the visitors. Running back Nick Chubb added 109 yards on 16 carries to pace a stout rushing attack.

Tennessee Vols Football takes on #7/8 Georgia at Neyland Stadium Saturday

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee renews one of its most exciting SEC East rivalries this week as the Vols host No. 7/8 Georgia on Saturday in Neyland Stadium. The game will feature a 2:30pm CT kickoff on CBS.

Tennessee (3-1, 0-1 SEC) is coming off a 17-13 win over UMass on September 23rd. Junior running back John Kelly ran for 101 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries. Sophomore receiver Brandon Johnson set new career highs with seven receptions for 123 yards. The UT defense logged seven sacks in the win, marking the Vols’ most sacks since recording seven sacks against Vanderbilt in 2008.
