APSU Athletics holds Virtual Ribbon-Cutting for Downey Baseball Operations Center, Clubhouse

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – The long-awaited grand opening of the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Downey Baseball Operations Center and Clubhouse was held Friday afternoon, October 9th, 2020 during a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony for donors and baseball alumni.

The latest step in modernizing Austin Peay State University’s baseball facilities was made possible by the generous support of Austin Peay State University donors and alumni, including a lead gift by Doug (’79) and Linda Downey.

Austin Peay State University Athletics fundraising sets two-year record

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Earlier this month, Austin Peay State University (APSU) announced a record-setting fundraising year, with the university netting $11.4 million for the 2019-20 fiscal year – the third consecutive year the university has posted its second-highest giving year.

Included in that university total $2.74 million raised for Austin Peay State University Athletics – the second most in department history. In the past two fiscal years, more than $6.35 million has been raised to support the Austin Peay athletics mission – the best two-year fundraising period in department history.

APSU Athletics’s Sara Robson, Jordan Harmon receive new titles

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison has announced that two senior staff have had title changes to reflect new roles heading into 2019-20.

Sara Robson has been elevated to Associate Director of Athletics for Operations, while Jordan Harmon has been named Assistant Director of Athletics for Development, reflecting his hand-in-hand work with the athletics department.

“As we move in to year two it is important to recognize these staff members for their outstanding contributions to the success and the future of Austin Peay Athletics,” Harrison said.

APSU breaks ground on new Baseball Clubhouse

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Last month, Austin Peay State University (APSU) hosted a groundbreaking for the new APSU Baseball Clubhouse at Raymond C. Hand Park. Special recognition was given to lead supporters Doug and Linda Downey and Joe and Cathi Maynard for their generous contributions to the Baseball Facility Improvement Fund.

Several years ago, Joe and Cathi Maynard moved with their family to Montgomery County. As co-owners of ECHO Power Engineering, LLC, Joe and his business partner decided to form a 10-year partnership with APSU to give back to their new community.

Austin Peay State University names Jordan Harmon next APSU Director of Athletics Development

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TNJordan Harmon, a 2017 Austin Peay State University alumnus, was named Director of Development for Athletics Fundraising within the University Advancement office at the start of December.

Harmon, a St. Louis native, will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies to enhance Austin Peay’s 16 varsity sports. In that role, he will be assist the department’s efforts to cultivate and steward major gifts for the athletics department. Harmon replaces Alaric Klinghard, who left the position this past summer.

88 APSU Governors named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Eighty-eight Austin Peay State University student-athletes were named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Friday, following the 2016-17 academic year.

Student-athletes must have achieved a 3.25 grade-point average, were eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chose NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition in that sport.

Austin Peay’s numbers include 22 athletes who competed in multiple sports during the season and are counted just once in the department’s total.

180 APSU Athletes earn Fall Semester Academic Honors

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – For the fourth consecutive semester, more than half of Austin Peay State University’s athletes received academic recognition following the recently concluded spring semester.

The department saw 180 athletes named to the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, each earning a minimum 3.0 grade-point average during the semester. That amounted to more than 53 percent of the department’s near-record 335 athletes earning academic recognition from the department.

It is the fourth consecutive semester the department has seen more than 50 percent of its athletes post a 3.0 or better GPA.
