187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionGhazni Province, Afghanistan – The Afghan government and 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, are expanding their reach with a second Radio in a Box station at the Miri District Center in Andar Province.

The new station was recently established in the district subgovernor’s building.

Within days of the first broadcasts, Sher Khan, Andar District subgovernor, conducted a live interview addressing the people’s primary concerns and making them aware that he is doing all he can to help the local people. «Read the rest of this article»

Task Force White Eagle, Task Force Iron Rakkasan eliminate insurgents

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Soldiers with Company C, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division conducted a combined operation with Polish Battle Group A in Bashir Village, Andar District, in eastern Ghazni Province to cordon and search an insurgent safehaven December 30th.

Polish and U.S. forces and local Afghan Uniformed Police worked together to find four caches of bomb-making materials, a military chest rack, three AK-47s and two hand grenades. They also detained three insurgents.

Task Force Iron Rakkasan uses PTDS to prevent highway robbery

BastogneFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Recently, Soldiers from Task Force Iron Rakkasan watched a member of the Afghan Uniformed Police conduct an illegal checkpoint on the route between Ghazni and Sharana. Using the camera system on the Persistent Threat Detection System, Soldiers observed a man standing in the road collecting money from vehicles. The practice is common by insurgents who fund their attacks by taking money from locals.

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Thousands of miles from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the Soldiers of Task Force Iron Rakkasan had just one thing on their minds; Army football.

TF Iron Rakkasan filled the conference room at Forward Operating Base Andar with West Point alumni and fellow supporters of the Army football team December 12th as the Army attempted to break an 8-year losing streak against Navy. This is the 111th meeting between the teams.

Iron Rakkasans find, destroy 2 IED caches

187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionGhazni Province, Afghanistan – One of Task Force Iron Rakkasan’s missions is to find and destroy insurgent improvised explosive device materials before the enemy is able to use them to damage vehicles or injure coalition or Afghan forces or civilians. TF Iron Rakkasan Soldiers found two caches during the last month, keeping IEDs out of the hands of enemies.

In mid-October, Soldiers from 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Task Force Rakkasan), 101st Airborne Division, worked with special forces to find and destroy 3,000 pounds of homemade explosives in western Andar District of Ghazni Province. That quantity of explosives is enough to make about 100 IEDs, according to explosives experts in the battalion, said U.S. Marine Capt. Operation Iron Blade II targets insurgents, denies safe haven in Ghazni Province

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Afghan forces and members of Task Force Iron Rakkasan conducted combined combat operations, taking the fight to an enemy safe haven in Ghazni Province November 28th.

Soldiers of TF Iron Rakkasan, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, conducted Iron Blade II, a battalion-level operation against a large cluster of villages in the Brimzi area insurgents used as a safe haven for the last several years.

Afghan Uniform Police and Afghan National Army units combined with Task Force Iron’s three organic infantry companies to attack the safe haven in a pre-dawn operation.

Iron Rakkasans enjoy Thanksgiving in Afghanistan

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Task Force Iron Rakkasan celebrated Thanksgiving 2010 in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. Even thousands of miles from home, the Soldiers had many reasons to be thankful.

“We’ve completed nine months of our deployment and we have had a lot of success,” said U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joshua Isbell from Sylacauga, AL, a squad leader in 2nd Platoon, Company A, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. “The battalion has made a lot of progress at pushing the insurgents out of Ghazni while preparing the Afghan National Security Forces to take up the task on their own.”

TF Iron Rakkasan offers condolences to families of civilians

187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Members of Task Force Iron Rakkasan met with village elders and the Andar District Sub-Governor Sher Khan October 8th following an incident that resulted in civilian casualties to express sympathy and offer condolences.

During the morning of September 29th, members of C Co., 3rd Battalion, 3-187th Infantry Regiment and the Afghanistan Uniformed Police were attacked by insurgents during a combat patrol near Fire Base Miri in Andar District.

Air weapons engagement kills 3 insurgents in Ghazni Province

During a morning patrol, Soldiers of 1st Platoon, Company A, 3rd Battalion, 187 Infantry Regiment, received small arms fire, which prompted them to return fire.

Two AH-64 Apache helicopters with 4th Attack Recon Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment, known as Task Force Gambler, arrived to provide support for the Soldiers on the ground.

Task Force Iron Rakkasan supports parliamentary elections in Afghanistan

187th Infantry Regiment - Iron RakkasansFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Task Force Iron Rakkasan assisted the Afghan government and the Afghan National Security Forces in eastern Ghazni province September 18th to provide safe and legitimate polling.

The leaders from each element spent the past several weeks planning and preparing for the elections to ensure it was safe, secure and free from corruption.

Young voters in Deh Yak District here wait their turn to enter the polling center and cast their vote Sept. 18th. It wasn’t until 9:00am, two hours after the polling centers opened, that the insurgents started to conduct attacks. Task Force Iron, who assisted the Afghan National Security Forces in providing security, engaged the enemy 20 times throughout Deh Yak and Andar districts. (Photo by U.S. Army 1st Lt. R.J.
