Nashville Sounds fall to Reno Aces at home, 4-3

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN -A late comeback attempt fell short for the Nashville Sounds in a 4-3 loss to the Reno Aces in front of 9,191 fans at First Tennessee Park Tuesday night.

Nashville left fielder BJ Boyd’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning brought the Sounds within a run, but that’s as close as it would get. 

The Sounds made two outs at the plate over the final two innings. Jorge Mateo was thrown out by right fielder Socrates Brito in the eighth, and Beau Taylor was thrown out at the dish to end the game in the ninth.

Nashville Sounds get homers from Colin Walsh and Matt McBride in 6-2 win over New Orleans Zephyrs

 

Nashville SoundsNew Orleans, LA – The Nashville Sounds (61-48) racked up 11 hits in a 6-2 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs (50-56) Sunday afternoon at Zephyrs field.

The Sounds got on the board first with a three-run third inning and never looked back. Colin Walsh led off the frame with a solo home run to left, it was only Walsh’s second home run of the year as a Sound. Jaycob Brugman then sent a two-run double to right field scoring Arismendy Alcantara and Tyler Ladendorf to give the Sounds a 3-0 lead in the third.

The Zephyrs then answered back with a lead-off solo home run of their own in the bottom of the third by Isaac Galloway to make it a 3-1 Sounds lead after three.

Nashville Sounds lose lead late, fall to Colorado Sky Sox 3-2

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds surrendered an early lead and fell to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 3-2 Friday night at First Tennessee Park in front of 9,402 fans.

Garrin Cecchini and Eric Young Jr. had back-to-back one out singles in the seventh to put the tying run on base. After a Michael Reed line out to short, Yadiel Rivera then saw a first pitch fastball and sent it over the left field fence to take a 3-2 lead for the Sky Sox.

The Sounds had a chance to tie or take a commanding lead in the bottom of the eight after three straight singles loaded the bases.

Billy Burns, Arismendy Alcantara and Chad Pinder each singled to start a potential Sounds rally in the eighth inning. Alcanatara’s single extended his hitting streak to 13 games, tying with Andrew Lambo for the team’s seaon-high hit streak.

Omaha Storm Chasers beat Nashville Sounds with two ninth inning runs

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Omaha Storm Chasers scored two runs in the ninth inning thanks to shaky defense and a handful of walks and grabbed a 6-4 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of a sellout crowd of 10,072 Saturday night at First Tennessee Park.

After being no-hit for the first six innings, the Sounds (55-46) put together multiple rallies to even the game in the later innings only to come up short.

Former Sounds pitcher Nick Tepesch, who was designated for assignment by Oakland less than two weeks ago, started for Omaha (44-55) and stymied his former teammates.

Nashville Sounds have explosive seven run inning to down Albuquerque Isotopes 8-4

 

Nashville SoundsAlbuquerque, NM – The Nashville Sounds exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning in an 8-4 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes Thursday afternoon at Isotopes Park.

Albuquerque starter Eddie Butler carried a 1-0 lead and no-hitter into the sixth before the Sounds’ explosion at the plate.

Butler faced Tyler Ladendorf to start the inning and retired the left fielder on a groundout. The next four batters reached on three hits and a walk. Nashville (54-45) got on the board when Jaycob Brugman’s single up the middle scored Bryan Anderson who doubled earlier in the inning.

Chris Smith pitching gives Nashville Sounds 5-1 win

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Veteran right-hander Chris Smith came through with a brilliant outing to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 5-1 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers in front of 6,001 fans Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park.

With a taxed bullpen, Smith worked a career-high eight innings. On his 110th pitch of the night, he struck out Reymond Fuentes to end the eighth inning – setting a career-high in innings pitched.

Nashville’s (47-33) three-run second inning was more than enough support. Joey Wendle walked to start the inning and got into scoring position on a wild pitch. Matt Olson plated Wendle with the first run of the game when he drilled a double off the right field wall.

Iowa Cubs take advantage of Nashville Sounds errors for 7-4 win

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Five errors led to the downfall of the short-handed Nashville Sounds in a 7-4 loss to the Iowa Cubs Friday night at Principal Park.

The season-high in miscues led to a three-run second inning the Sounds (44-32) couldn’t recover from. With the game even at 1-1, starter Jesse Hahn had to face several extra batters in the frame after an error by Ryon Healy and two from Renato Nunez.

When the damage was done, Iowa (35-37) held a 4-1 lead heading to the third. The Sounds battled back and scored a pair of runs to pull within one.

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds split their doubleheader with the Iowa Cubs losing 3-0 in game one and taking game two 7-4 Thursday night at Principal Park.

The Sounds took the early 1-0 lead in game two when Joey Wendle batted home Matt Olson on a RBI fielder’s choice in the second inning. The Sounds then plated four runs in the third, highlighted by a bases clearing three-run double from Matt McBride to put the Sounds up 4-0. Wendle then singled up the middle to score McBride from second to put the Sounds up 5-0.

Nashville Sounds shutout Round Rock Express, 4-0

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Left-hander Dillon Overton threw 7 1/3 dominant innings to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 4-0 win over the Round Rock Express in front of 6,081 fans Monday night at First Tennessee Park.

The Sounds (42-28) took three games from the Express (38-32) in the five-game series and now lead the American Southern Division by four games at the midway point of the 2016 season.

The 7 1/3 innings set a career-high for Overton who improved to 8-4 on the season with the win. He has gone 25 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run. Over his last seven starts, he’s 7-0 with a miniscule 1.40 ERA covering 45 innings.

Nashville Sounds drop doubleheader to Round Rock Express

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Round Rock Express trimmed the American Southern Division race to three games with a doubleheader sweep over the Nashville Sounds in front of 7,388 fans Sunday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.

The Sounds’ offense struggled and managed two runs in game one and just one run in game two.

Round Rock used a four-run third inning to help score a 5-2 win in the first game Sunday afternoon. Doug Bernier started the scoring with a solo homer off Nashville starter Jesse Hahn.
