Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for August 19th, 2012
This weeks highlights include:
Volunteer for Riverfest
Why not celebrate the 25th anniversary of Clarksville Riverfest by giving back and possibly win prize money for your group or organization? Volunteers are being sought to help with soft drink sales, the Adventure Zone children’s area, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, as well as the Cornhole Tournament on September 7 and 8 at McGregor Park. The group or organization who registers the most volunteers through Hands On Clarksville by August 31 will receive $500. In order to be eligible for the $500 prize, volunteers must abide the following criteria:
Individuals are allowed to volunteer their time in honor of a group or organization. They must follow the same criteria. Winner of the contest will be announced September 13. The registration process is simple, visit www.hon.org and search “Riverfest.” Volunteers may then select the area in which they would like to volunteer and then select the timeslot occurrence that best fits their schedule. Downtown Market
Thank you to everyone who has voted for the Clarksville Downtown Market in the American Farmland Trust‘s Favorite Farmers Market contest. We are currently ranked #1 in Tennessee, but still need your votes to be #1 in the nation! According to the contest rules, people can vote for as many participating farmers markets as they choose, but can only vote for each market once. Voting runs through midnight on Monday September 3, when one small, one medium, one mid-size, and one large market will win the title of “America’s Favorite Farmers Market” for 2012. The winning markets will be featured in the media and will be honored at local celebrations organized by American Farmland Trust. If you have yet to visit the Clarksville Downtown Market, be sure to come downtown to Public Square, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. About Parks and Recreation
