Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for October 23rd, 2016
This weeks highlights include: Zombie 5k Chase Race, Youth Basketball League, Fright on Franklin and Fort Defiance Haunting.
Zombie 5K Chase RaceThe Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Clarksville Zombie Hunters have teamed up to host the Zombie 5K Chase Race. Find out how fast you can escape as zombies take over Liberty Park on Saturday, October 29th beginning at 7:00am. Try and survive the apocalypse by using your brains and disguises to outsmart hungry zombies along the 3.1 mile course. You’ll need endurance, stamina and quick wit to survive this 5K – your life depends on it! All fitness levels are welcome. Open to ages 5 and up. Strollers are permitted, but must begin at the back of the race for safety. RegistrationRegistration is available online at www.cityofclarksville.com/ZOMBIE5K or in person at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office located at 102 Public Square. Course OptionsTimed 5K Fee increases to $35.00 on October 18th Runners will endure a 5K run through a zombie-infested course. Test your speed, endurance, and strength while trying to avoid ravenous zombies! *This race is limited to the first 500 registrants and includes a t-shirt and finisher’s medal. Participants in this race are eligible for awards. Non-Timed 5K Fee increases to $25.00 on October 18th Same zombie infested 5K course as the timed event, but for the non-competitive type. This race is about having a good time. Feel free to run, walk, skip, or hop! *This race is limited to the first 500 registrants and includes a t-shirt. Participants in this race will not receive a finisher’s medal or be eligible for awards. Family Fun Run Fee increases to $20.00 on October 18th This race is intended for those 10-years and younger who want to participate with their parents and siblings, but may not have the endurance for a whole 3.1 miles. *There is no limit on participant registration and includes a t-shirt. Participants in this race will not receive a finisher’s medal or be eligible for awards. Costume ContestThis is a contest for the most believable zombie. All contest contestants must be a registered race participant to compete in the costume contest. Costume contest will be divided into two age groups: Under 18 and Adult. First, second, and third place winners will be awarded in each division. Zombie AttacksNo direct or intentional contact with another runner or zombie is permitted (course monitors will be present). Runners cannot push other runners into zombies. No fake (or real) weapons allowed. Violators of this rule may be asked to leave the premises. Additional Information:
Liberty Park is located at 1190 Cumberland Drive. The Zombie 5K Chase Race is presented by Clarksville Parks and Recreation and the Clarksville Zombie Hunters. Chip timing provided and by the Clarksville Running Club. Fright on FranklinThe 8th Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by The City of Clarksville and Altra Federal Credit Union, will take place on Saturday, October 29th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm in Downtown Clarksville. This free, family-friendly event is for adults and kids of all ages and will feature safe trick-or-treating, a hayride, costume contests, and much more! Once again, pre-registration for the costume contests is required. There will be no registration the day of the event. Contest participants can register online now through October 27th at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office (102 Public Square) or online at www.cityofclarksville.com/fright Categories include Newborn to two-years-old at 3:15pm, three- to six-years-old at 3:45pm, seven- to nine-years-old at 4:15pm, 10- to 12-years-old at 4:45pm, and group costumes at 5:15pm. Preference will be given to original costumes in all age categories. Registrants are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled time to check-in. All costumes should be in good taste and appropriate for a family event. Fright on Franklin will also feature 70 trick-or-treat booths, pumpkin bowling, a hayride, photo booth and food vendors! To apply to be a vendor, visit www.cityofclarksville.com/fright Fort Defiance offers Haunting ExperienceThe Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Halloween at Fort Defiance event on Friday, October 28th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the fort located at 120 Duncan Street. Visitors are invited to gather around the bonfire to listen to four haunting tales of woe and terror based upon historical events. Don’t be afraid, Fort Defiance isn’t haunted…we think!
