APSU Soccer travels to Western Illinois for final exhibition match

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Fresh off a 3-0 drubbing of Indiana State in its preseason opener, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team will hit the road for its final exhibition contest, 5:00pm, Friday, August 10th, 2017 against Western Illinois in Macomb.

The Governors look to build on a solid first exhibition outing against the Sycamores, Tuesday.

Clarksville Police makes public aware of Vehicle Battery Thefts

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department wants business and vehicle owners to beware, thieves actually do steal car batteries. Since July 13th, 2017, there have been over 120 automotive batteries stolen in the Clarksville area.

The majority were used batteries and trade-ins for new batteries. The used batteries were setting outside of businesses or stored in a caged storage area.

Austin Peay State University receives grant from NCAA’s Accelerating Academic Success Program

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Austin Peay State University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has been selected as a recipient of a grant from the NCAA’s Accelerating Academic Success Program.

APSU Athletics received a single-year grant totaling $100,000 from the NCAA and was one of only nine Division I institutions to receive a single-year grant. The grant will be used to upgrade the Dr. Phil Roe Academic Center located in the Winfield Dunn Center, with the purpose of elevating the academic success of Austin Peay’s student-athletes.

Back at school, ‘Kindness is Cool’

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett have proclaimed August as “Kindness is Cool — Back to School Month.”

Durrett and Clarksville Mayor Pro Tem Valerie Guzman presented the proclamation Tuesday at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library as part of Clarksville Kindness Rocks project to promote random acts of kindness using art as a creative way to touch people.

APSU Football adds Sean Dawkins as running backs coach

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University football head coach Will Healy has turned to a familiar face to lead his running back group, adding Sean Dawkins to his coaching staff for the 2017 season.

Dawkins replaces J.D. Sellers, who recently became head coach at Clarksville Academy – Dawkins was with Murray State last season in the same role.

Clarksville Gas and Water reports Locust Street Water Main Repair and Lane Closure

Clarksville Gas and Water Department - CGWClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water has shut the water off on Locust Street from Chapel Street to E Street and has closed the road for water main repairs. Low water pressure may be experienced on E Street.

The water main repair is anticipated to be finished and the road reopened by approximately 4:00pm.

BACH offers emergency support services and consolidated schedule August 21st

 

Blanchfield Army Hospital - BACH - Fort Campbell KYFort Campbell, KY – Blanchfield Army Community Hospital’s outpatient medical services will operate on a consolidated schedule August 21st, 2017 in observance of the post’s Day of No Scheduled Activities. The medical services will remain open for inpatient and emergency medical care.

The consolidated schedule comes as the communities surrounding Fort Campbell are expected to experience a record number of visitors coming to observe a total solar eclipse. The hospital’s participation in observing the DONSA will help ease traffic congestion in the communities.

The emergency department and inpatient services will operate on a regular schedule. Primary care at BACH’s Air Assault Medical Home, Byrd Medical Home, Screaming Eagle Medical Home, Young Eagle Medical Home and Gold Army Medical Home will be consolidated to the Air Assault Family Medical Home within the C Building of the hospital.

Clarksville Gas and Water Department - CGW​Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water is currently performing a water main repair on Main Street between Second Street and Third Street. Water service is not expected to be disrupted during the repair. Main Street is also closed between Second Street and Third Street.

The water main repair is anticipated to be finished and the lanes reopened by approximately 3:00pm.

Titled “Sustaining the Boom: Becoming a World Class Region,” the event will convene hundreds of Middle Tennessee planners, community leaders and elected officials to discuss regional issues and opportunities.

Four employees retire from Clarksville Fire Rescue

 

Clarksville Fire RescueClarksville, TN – In recognition of many years of service four Clarksville Fire Rescue employees were honored at a retirement dinner.

Each employee was presented with a traditional rocking chair and a shadow box from the department. The Local 3180 Fire Union also presented a ceremonial chrome axe to each of the retirees.

Engineer Wesley Bossard retired February 14th, 2017 with 27 years of service.
