More than 150 years later, volunteers from the local community, statewide, and across the nation, will join HistoriCorps’ preservation experts to save a part of this country’s history.

The Homeplace 1850s Working Farm and Living History Museum is representative of a significant era in American history. Preceding the nation’s devastating civil war, the historic site offers us a deep insight into how people lived during those tense times.

HistoriCorps is truly honored for being a part of this special project, preserving multiple buildings on the site, with preservation work ranging from repairing severely deteriorated roofing elements to crucial foundation repair. To let such a beautiful site to fall in utter disrepair is not an option.

HistoriCorps Volunteer Manager Liz Rice is passionate about recruiting volunteers for HistoriCorps’ projects because of the opportunities she has to bring people together, “one of the volunteers on this project had a career as a farrier and has offered to lend her iron working skills to the crew.

Our work can demand some pretty specialized skills like this, so the opportunity to have her as part of the team, sharing her skills and learning new ones from our expert field staff, is a real win-win situation for everyone involved.”
