Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville will recognize the federal Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnerships programs April 22nd-26th during National Community Development Week.
Locally, these programs are coordinated by the Clarksville Office of Housing and Community Development.
This week the Office will bring together citizens, officials, program staff, subrecipients and beneficiaries through events that educate the public and recognize and showcase the programs.
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and the Housing and Community Development Office will honor its Citizens Advisory Committee and homeless service providers at a breakfast Thursday.
During 2018, for example, Clarksville’s homeless service providers assisted 8,132 people. More than 100 people directly escaped homelessness because of the homeless prevention program, and 321 shelter vouchers were issued.
For more than 40 years, CDBG has provided Clarksville and communities across America with an important source of money to address affordable housing and community and economic development needs.
The CDBG provides grants to more than 1,200 local governments to create neighborhood approaches that improve the physical, economic and social conditions in communities. Each dollar of CDBG money leverages more than four dollars in other funding.
For 20 years, the HOME program has helped communities provide access to affordable housing for low-income households. The HOME program provides grants to more than 600 local communities to create safe, sanitary, and affordable housing in communities nationwide.
Both programs are administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These programs are needed more than ever to help vulnerable citizens and improve the overall condition of neighborhoods.
